Taruffi'S Porsche
In 1966, Italian racing driver Piero Taruffi tested the first Porsche 911 S for the italian magazine L'Automobile. As an engineer Taruffi - shown here with the legendary team principal Fritz "Huschke" von Hanstein - published an article filled with diagrams explaining the turning radius and the unique driving characteristics of the car. He writes:
Coloro che sono abituati a guidare vetture con pesi preponderanti sull'anteriore (…) troveranno forse una certa difficoltà ad impostare la curva ad andatura elevata (…). Nell'eseguire questa parte io ruoto il volante con maggiore dolcezza.
Which translates to (more or less):
Drivers who are used to cars with most of the weight on the front (…) may find it somewhat difficult to initiate the turn at higher speeds (…). When I perform this maneuver, I turn the steering wheel more smoothly.
So, be careful with the 911S.
