okay let’s talk about it. Secretary obviously as Gerard’s femininity but also as their need for control and perfectionism, as well as their relationship with Ray (yes WE know it’s sexual but it’s also objectively her encouraging him to pla and play more and better which is very interesting considering Gerard’s constant encouragement of Ray). And then the clerk is Gerard’s masculinity — interestingly put in a traditionally emasculating role — as well as their feeling of helplessness, of being forced to do things they don’t want to (and I would say their relationship with Frank but I truly think that’s just Frank and Charlie fucking around). What’s interesting to me is the relationship between MEV and the Clerk. The friendship and kindness there (to a masculine, unhappy side of yourself)(a figure sitting on a chair of wood) that eventually must end in one killing the other (picture yourself lighting a match).

And of course, neither of them are actually in control.
