i would love to hear abt how u became so fascinated with the alien franchise! what makes u love prometheus and covenant sm in particular?
ur blog really helped me when i was deeply obsessed with david8 a few months ago and found ur writings and i was like foaming at the mouth for your work. i sent a couple asks asking abt ur opinions on davids character and seeing how in depth ur answers are and how into it u are and how much lore u know abt the series was so sweet like i love seeing someone so excited and passionate on a subject rlly get to nerd out abt it
Hello dear Ella! How sweet of you, it really means a lot to me QWQ And what a wonderful question <3
My origin story as a fanfiction author is a bit better known already (watching the movies, hyperfixating on Prometheus during a content drought, and eventually deciding that someone had to change that), so I will focus more on why I became so obsessed with Prometheus in the first place. c:
Prometheus touches on many themes that are important to me and that I can personally relate to. Beyond the obvious themes of creation and destruction, it asks questions like: Where do we come from? The complicated relationship between creators and creations. It explores faith, the need to believe in something that keeps us moving forward - whether that belief is religious or not - and it speaks a lot about autonomy and personhood.
To explain why all of that speaks to me in such a way, I have to open up about myself.
I'm neurodivergent, possibly autistic, and I come from a pretty broken patchwork family. My father was an evil man, completely uninterested in me unless my existence could somehow be used to hurt my mother. My mother, meanwhile, was unwanted and given away for adoption - suffering through several childhood traumas of her own. Because of that, she wasn't emotionally available for my brothers and me once we turned a certain age, and she tried to compensate for the love she couldn't express with materialistic goods.
My brothers are more than a decade older than I am, and we rarely speak these days. In fact, I cut contact with my oldest brother years ago. Sounds familiar? These family issues were definitely one of the things that drew me in. Especially the relationship between Meredith and David is incredibly important to me. I have always loved my headcanon that they were close once, only to be torn apart by their father - to compete for a love he was never even able to give in the first place.
Another thing I find fascinating is the near-complete absence of maternal figures in Prometheus.
Elizabeth's mother died when she was young. David never had a mother at all. Meredith's mother is never mentioned. Did she never marry Weyland? Is she alive? Is she dead? Every Weyland seems to have a mother who died or disappeared when they were young, continuing an endless cycle of issues.
Everyone is seeking a mother, though.
Elizabeth seeks out the Engineers because she wants answers and to not feel alone in this universe. David, after the events of Prometheus, goes completely bonkers and tries to turn Elizabeth into his Eve, bending and breaking her body into a mother through immoral means while loving and revering her in this twisted way because she has been the kindest anyone has ever been to him. He kind of becomes a mother himself, in a way? Carrying his "children" in his body onto the Covenant.
There is so much searching, so much longing for connection, belonging, and acceptance.
I was incredibly lucky because I had my grandmother - she was the most maternal person I have ever known. She never had biological children and she never married, but she adopted my mother, helped raise her grandchildren (especially me), worked at an orphanage, became an elementary school teacher, and had dozens of children calling her Mama throughout her life.
Sometimes I think about what a difference a person like her could have made for David and Meredith, or even for Peter Weyland.
When I lost her, I felt awfully alone in this world. And I think a lot of those feelings end up finding their way into my writing and into the way I engage with these characters.
I also struggle with not knowing where I come from. My mother is adopted, and because of that, I know very little about my biological ancestry. When I was 16 I took a DNA test just to learn a bit more about my blood's history.
And then there is David. Weird, sweet David. I formed a deep bond with him and the Synths in general because of their otherness. :'D
As I mentioned before, I'm neurodivergent, and I have spent most of my life being "the weird one". The weird daughter, the weird classmate.
I thought differently, felt differently, talked differently, reacted differently. I got bullied, struggled to connect with people my own age, and most of my friendships ended up being with people who were either much older or much younger than me. For years, I never understood why. Then I found out that I am neurodivergent and probably autistic, and suddenly a lot of my life started to make sense. :'D
And that is where I feel for and with David. Being a person, yet not being treated like one. Feeling things, yet constantly being told that those feelings are not real, do not count, or do not matter. Existing as you are and being mocked, belittled, or dismissed because you are different. Craving love and acceptance from people who either cannot give it to you or simply refuse to see you as worthy of it.
And what I also adore about Prometheus is that the crew feels so wonderfully human, with all their quirks, flaws, and questionable decisions that still make sense when you look at them with empathy. I will defend them forever, especially Millburn and Fifield. <3 But that would be a topic worthy of its own post.
So yeah, those are some of the biggest reasons why I fell so hard for Prometheus, and why I dig so deep for information and analyze it in depth. Even though I love the other Alien media as well, this one has an especailly tight grip on my soul. o3o
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk <3
did someone ask for kotarou and neko dabbing? done is mspaint? no one? just me? ok
the humble "like" is oft mocked despite what it does for us. "like, three people" is a vastly different statement from "three people". "and i was like 'what the fuck'" is vastly different from "and i said 'what the fuck'". i love you "like" and anyone who says you make people sound stupid will be killed on sight

yeah yeah rainbow capitalism is bad and whatever but like. when I was a child, being pro gay was not the popular or lucrative choice. I'm happy that times have changed.
I miss rainbow capitalism. I do. I miss when it felt like public opinion was still pro gay. I understand it was always an empty gesture, but it mattered in a sense of knowing how socially acceptable being queer is. If that makes sense.
idk why people are still trying to do "hear me out"s on tumblr
you could talk about wanting to fuck the space needle on here and people would still call you a poser for insisting on fucking "conventionally attractive architecture" as if that's a coherent, easily-recognizable category
I want to fuck Antoni Gaudi's unbuilt Hotel Attraction skyscraper design
"hear me out" and it's a picture of the most fuckable building you've ever seen. c'mon now.
“hear me out” and it’s the fucking dildopolis
