Ok so Hyrule and the Stalfos skull in this last LU update took me out--

🤣 These two have SUCH a great relationship in the comic. They embody two brothers messing around in a Zelda game SO much, from the impromptu competition to the teasing to the jokes and care written between the lines... I just love it. Especially because it feels so realistic! Haha and I love how silly Hyrule (and Legend!) are allowed to be now that they're together in their element. You go guys ^u^

And they could almost deal with that, there was enough supports and painkillers and work arounds that if that was all there was, they could take it, but it’s not.

Mentally, they’d been hurt worse than anything that could have been done to them physically. Ur hadn’t just hurt their mind, what had happened to them had rewired it. They’d done what they could, but… the nightmares, the flinching, the panic attacks, the bursts of anger, the memory issues, on and on, it wouldn’t stop. It might get better, over a long, long time, but…

Caretaker must be running out of patience. They would be. And how long before Caretaker realizes that they’re beyond repair? Part of them wants to tell them now, to be open and honest, to not keep wasting Caretakers time. After all, why keep working on something that will never be fixed?

But another, more selfish part of them wanted to hide it, to keep pretending, to hang on to these last few weeks or months while they could.

It ate away at them, every time Caretaker was around. Every dose of medicine, every dinner at the table, every favor done that Whumpee used to be able to manage on their own took another bite out of them till they couldn’t take it anymore.

Over dinner, Whumpee tried to explain. Laid it out as bluntly as they could. Said that they appreciated everything that Caretaker had done, but there were some things that they couldn’t fix, and it wasn’t fair to let them keep trying.

Caretaker just listens, occasionally sipping their coffee, till Whumpee was finished, then said the last thing Whumpee was prepared for.

“I’m not trying to fix you.”

They’d been ready for platitudes, for reassurances and reminders to not give up hope, but…

“It would be unfair, verging on stupid, to expect you to go through everything that happened to you and pop out the other side without any consequences. I know that things are going to be different, forever. I’ve known that the whole time…” Their voice cracked slightly and they looked down into their now empty coffee mug.
