is this gonna get me fired you think
listen it's not that I think epic the musical is a perfect adaption of the odyssey but it was an impressive passion project that knew what it wanted to be and knew what people gravitated to in the original work and it put significant effort into conveying this through its unique medium and tone to the point that hundreds of other people felt compelled to put effort into their own artistic interpretations of that version of the story. and that's really cool! and yes I would be more critical if it was a 100 million dollar project made by a professional because what the fuck do you mean you're a world-famous director and you cut the my name is nobody scene are you goddamn serious
what the fuck man you cant do that

Coming out to nii-san
shoutout to this anime-only extended scene. the animators really be finding any possible space where they could add more brushbuddy shenanigans and they are so correct for it
Oh Euini...
I love people who have specific characters that are their "no one understands this character like me. not even the writers." because they're genuinely not joking. the way they understand those specific characters is so profound that it'll change your entire veiw.

orufrey sketches
are you kidding me?? All the hands holding the cups? And Qifrey trying to sneakily sniff Olly's cloak? Amazing.
I quote this and laugh to myself very, very often.
āWhat is it that the child has to teach?
The child naively believes that everything should be fair and everyone should be honest, that only good should prevail, that everybody should have what they want and there should be no pain or sadness. The child believes the world should be perfect and is outraged to discover it is not.
And the child is right.ā
ā Rabbi Tzvi Freeman
āWesterners are fond of the saying āLife isnāt fair.ā Then, they end in snide triumphant: āSo get used to it!ā What a cruel, sadistic notion to revel in! What a terrible, patriarchal response to a childās budding sense of ethics. Announce to an Iroquois, āLife isnāt fair,ā and her response will be: āThen make it fair!āā āBarbara Alice Mann
[ID: panel from Calvin and Hobbes in which Calvinās mom says, āLife could be worse, Calvinā and Calvin responds, āLife could be a lot better, too!ā]
and out of the darkness - you you you you you

pikmin witches!! šæš¼
one of my favorite things in dunmeshi is how chilchuck turns out to be the guy in the party with the least to hide despite how much he goes out of his way to act all secretive. like the more we learn about everyone else it seems like theyāve all got like trauma or crimes or even just oddities that they donāt share explicitly not bc theyāre hiding anything, but just because itās never come up, or itās too much of a hassle to explain, or it just didnāt occur to them. meanwhile, Normal Man Chilchuck is finding new gray hairs every morning because his friends want to know how old he is and his darkest secret is that his wife left him for being⦠too secretive. like up against a monster-phile, a dark mage, a circus attraction and Schrƶdingerās cannibal, him making such a big deal out of having three adult kids is kinda epic
i would actually like to argue that that makes it even funnier because chilchuck actually recounts this tale with very little hesitation. heās extremely open about his traumatic half foot experiences because theyāre the reason for his dedicated work/life balance. the oppression he experiences is part of his everyday life within the workplace, so naturally he talks about it within the workplace.
by comparison, the others are all entrenched in some kind of drama deeply related to their roles to an extent that itās like. yeah it makes sense that this isnāt a typical conversation topic, but theyāre not ever the ones shouting about respecting professional boundaries, and also their issues are more related to their professional lives than chilchuckās. laios is a team leader who dislikes humans because of how they historically have treated him and his sister. marcille is here to study dark magic because sheās consumed by her fear of outliving everyone she loves. senshi and starvation. izutsumi and the inherent trauma of living in a body that has been permanently changed against your will.
chilchuck is the most well-adjusted guy in the group. heās on salary. he formed a union. heās working on his family (more or less). he likes to drink as a hobby rather than to cope. he pursues healthy, constructive outlets for his frustrations with the world and doesnāt hesitate to advocate for himself. my point isnāt that chilchuck doesnāt have trauma, itās that the trauma he does have is stuff heās processed and dealt with, so that by the time the story starts heās at a point in his life where his most closely guarded secret is that he has a family.
and the way he guards that secret so obsessively is HILARIOUS by comparison.
