“That’s odd. So many things are odd here.” She sighed. “Are there any other rules like this?”

“I mean, they’re not really rules,” he explained. “You can have ‘breakfast foods’ whenever you want. And if you want a burger in the morning, its your call.”

“There’s..special food for the morning?” River frowned deeply. “Why? What’s the difference between morning food and afternoon food?”

“Well, certain foods you have in the morning, because that’s what they’re for,” he shrugged. “That’s just kind of how things are.”

“Yeah, thanks for your sentiments”

“I--um--you’re welcome,” he said before rushing out.

“Listen buddy, there’s no if ands or buts about it, you’re fourteen now and we’re celebrating”

“But Logan, it already was my birthday, it’s past,” he said, smiling at her.

River frowned. “You keep track of the day you were born? Humans are..odd.” She wasn’t quite sure what he meant by a breakfast food. Wasn’t all food just food? But she didn’t want to ask more questions.

He nodded. “Yeah, it’s kind of an important date,” he told her. “Like, it’s as if you were a little gift to the world on that day, so then every year you have a little celebration.” Phoenix smiled. “So then I made myself pancakes after i woke up, because that’s when you eat them--in the morning. Because that’s what breakfast food is--morning food. And i celebrated, all alone. Because my birthday’s important, but not as important as Logan’s birthday.”
