@cafeleningrad here’s your very late PrUK Secret Santa (@prukevents) pinch hit for your fantasy AU prompt! Sorry for the lateness, I’m a bit out of practice with drawing but I hope you like it

Now for the dot point fanfic:

Princess Giselle is the only child of the King and Queen

Arthur is a peasant boy magical prodigy prophesied to be the next great mage so he’s brought to the palace to study under the court mage

The court mage is a grumpy old man with a “this upstart is supposed to be my successor?” attitude so naturally Arthur is terrified of him

Meanwhile Giselle is a fearless tomboy who hates etiquette lessons and likes to prank her governess and she decides the new kid at the palace is going to be her friend

In order to stop Giselle from constantly skipping her etiquette lessons her parent bribe her by also letting her take sword lessons and she becomes quite a well known lady knight

Eventually Arthur stops being terrified of the court mage and will soon succeed him and become Giselle’s right hand and closest advisor

Everyone still calls Arthur a pansy to his back because he’s always nose deep in his studies, though they’ll never insult him to his face because he might curse them and also he’s bffs with their princess

At this point both Giselle and Arthur have feelings beyond the platonic for each other but are both too absorbed in their own lives to have a good think about their feelings

When Giselle turns 18 the Queen decides she must marry to stabilise her rule in the future as she’ll be the first Queen regnant in the history of their country and having a King consort when she takes the throne will appease the more conservative court members

So all the eligible noble young men of the kingdom and princes from neighboring kingdoms are invited to the palace to be Giselle’s suitors

Giselle hates having to meet her suitors, especially the part where she gets all dolled up and stuffed into a pretty gown

She’d much prefer to show up in her armour and brandishing her sword because she’s sure at least one of them would wet themselves

Arthur heads from palace gossip that Giselle stormed out of the meeting with her suitors and goes to find her in the disused room they both have hidden in since childhood

Walking into Giselle already half undressed

Arthur stammers and tries to leave but Giselle is completely unabashed and more than happy to see him and asks him to help her out of her stupid stupid dress

She even asks him to help unlace her corset and Arthur just about dies

At this point Arthur has figured out his feelings and starts to avoid Giselle

Which is pretty easy because the Queen, unimpressed with how Giselle handled meeting her suitors, commands that she chooses within a weeks and orders her to her room to “reflect on what kind of man you want as husband and future King consort”

Of course she means well and wants giselle to choose someone who won’t try to steal her throne but Giselle is too angry to understand that

Instead she decides to pettily think about the shortcomings of each suitor and why she dislikes each and every one of them, eventually coming to the realisation that when she’s describing each of the qualities they should have, she’s actually describing… Arthur?

So in the middle of the night she sneaks out of her room all dressed in black and breaks in Arthur’s

He nearly hits her in the face with a spell because he thinks she’s an assassin before asking her what she’s doing

Giselle looks him dead in the eyes and says: “run away with me”

Arthur: “what?”

Giselle tells him she’d prefer him over any of her suitors and after and lot of hesitation and excuse making Arthur agrees to her plan

The plan is they elope to throw the palace into panic and therefore make the King and Queen more willing to accept their marriage when they return

Except Giselle hasn’t made it clear that it’s not just a marriage of convenience and the whole time Arthur is just dying inside

They eventually have a talk about Feelings during their self imposed exile and all misunderstandings are cleared up

As expected Giselle’s parents are more than happy to accept arthur when the couple return a month later and all the suitors are sent away

Giselle and Arthur live happily ever after and become known for being wise and just rulers

Arthur didn’t like the mistletoe tradition that much, so he did the only sensible thing: invented his own.

Sorry for the major delay this year, but we admins have been and are still busy with our academic and personal lives. But without further ado, we’d like to officially announce that this year’s Secret Santa IS running.

If you’re interested in participating in our annual PrUK gift exchange, keep reading this post.

How is this going to work? If you wish to participate simply fill in the application form with your details and requests then submit it to us. We ask that you send it in through submission because there is no character limit and the formatting is easier for the admins to process. After applications close the admins will assign each participant someone else to make a gift for.

How long do I have to apply? You have weeks from now (11:59 PM EST on 18 December) to send in your application. Late applications may be accepted depending on how many applications we receive. 

How do I know if my application has been received? We will send you a message upon reading your application. Please give us around a day to get back to you as time zones and other personal reasons may prevent us from responding right away.

When will assignments be sent out? Assignments will be sent out on 19 December.

Are genderbends/2ps okay? Short answer: yes. But we are aware that they may not be everybody’s cup of tea so you can just specify that on the application form. AUs are also perfectly fine.

When are the gifts due? Due to the late announcement this year, gifts won’t be due until after new year, so not to put too much pressure on anyone.
