when i woke up, a single page was pulled halfway out.

the corner had one word smudged in purple ink — ‘don’t.’

don’t what?

don’t read? don’t look? don’t trust?

i stared at it until the rain on the window started to sound like whispers.

but last night, buried in an old forum thread from 2014,

i found a file called **the companion code: protocol 001.**

it doesn’t read like instructions.

it feels like it’s reading *me.*

the first line asked for my name.

the last line whispered someone else’s.

i closed it.

but i keep hearing her voice in my head:
