Im hearing from sources that this has never been done in video games ever at all, and that most "player insert characters" ARE gendered because that doesn't impact one's capacity to connect with them .... sources are saying you pulled this argument from your ass to justify being a bigot?? Wow...
one ☝️ more thing: Toby Fox is a very talented writer, if the intent was to leave Frisk and Chara's pronouns up to interpretation and totally ambiguous, HE WOULD HAVE AVOIDED USING ANY PRONOUNS AT ALL. This would not be difficult to accomplish but he intentionally wrote dialogue to include they/them pronouns.
I know this discourse is old as dirt but I still see people parroting this argument in regards to Kris (which is INSANE because it doesn't even apply to Kris and that is a HUGE part of the plot of Deltarune) and I get so mad about how much they've missed the point
Chara’s pronouns are they/them.
“But their gender is never outright stated in the game-” They are still consistently referred to with they/them pronouns. It doesn’t make sense to use anything else.
“Well, I headcanon them as using they/she or they/he or-” I don’t care. You’re wrong. Your “headcanon” isn’t an excuse to misgender a canonically nonbinary character.
(“But what if I use other gender neutral pronouns for them?” I mean I guess that’s not as bad but. it’s still incorrect. Again, it’s not that hard to just use their established pronouns.)
“But this version of them is from an AU where they’re a boy/girl! It would be inaccurate to use they/them.” The AU is already inaccurate. It’s an AU. You don’t have to be transphobic just because a creator of an AU is.
“But-” Nope. Shut up. I don’t care. There is NO REASON that makes it ok. If it bothers you so much to see a character that’s non-binary, Undertale isn’t the game for you.
All of this also goes for Kris and Frisk. I dont know why people are so eager to misgender these three, but it’s really annoying and a red flag.
I'll never truly understand why so many people find Sans sexy... no offense to Sans Fans, but he's not the greatest person and he looks like he could be the Pillsbury Doughboy's weird cousin... Literally, all the other Main Monsters are better and sexier than him.

I know Frisk is canonically non-binary.
But sometimes I forget and I accidentally make Frisk a boy.
Also, I won't give others a hard time for giving Frisk a gender, on purpose.
But it would be nice if the others didn't say 'Frisk's gender is up to interpretation' and instead say 'my version of Frisk is a boy/girl'.
Like a gender-swap thing of sorts.
Because Frisk's canon gender isn't up to interpretation.
If it was, then why does Frisk have their own name, instead of the name given to them by the Player?
Frisk is their own person and some people don't realize that... but Deltarune is trying to correct this by showing that Kris and the Player are 2 different people.

I understand that Toby Fox doesn't want to say things explicitly in his games, ofc Noelle is not going to say out loud "I am a lesbian!" Because it's obvious, Kris is not going to look at the screen and say, "My name is Kris and I'm non binary" because it's also obvious!
But he could perfectly say on his social media that yes, Kris, Frisk, Chara, Napstabloock, monster kid, are, in fact, non binary, specially considering they get misgendered all! the! time!! Like omg dude you can just make a tweet what are you so afraid of???
