 “Kyungsoo-ssi, you sound a bit off. Are you feeling well?”

 You asked from the other side of the room while looking at the usual lifeless Kyungsoo.

 “Ne PD-nim. Might be the weather, I’m sorry” He assured as he tried to avoid your stare.

He’s lying. You murmured to yourself. He’s been your best friend and your oppa (as he’s almost 1 year older than you) for 5 years since you moved to Korea. As both of you are introverts, you got along the moment you were introduced to exo as their junior producer. He likes to cook and you like exploring new cuisine. You enjoyed being in each other’s company even when you have nothing to talk about. He is definitely the older brother you never had.

Years passed and you’ve seen how they owned every music charts and how popular they’ve become. You yourself were promoted as the youngest senior music pd. Time spent together became lesser and lesser and your fondness to each other were only satisfied through occasional texts and emails. You can only see him during comebacks and dance practices but most of the time, it’s either they’re promoting overseas or he’s shooting for a drama/movie. Despite all of it, you still remain very close and excitement still fills you up whenever you’re about to see him.

“Ok, shall we go back to the first verse?” Mr. Kim nodded as he played the music

Everything was going well and his singing became better but still not the normal Soo. You are now beginning to worry and you’ve already planned to have a serious conversation with him later until you noticed his trembling voice during the bridge part

He suddenly stopped. You saw him dropped the earphones together with his head low while staring blankly at the music sheet and stood there as lifeless as he could be. You wanted to hug and console him even if you have no idea what’s going on but you can’t let the others see your closeness with Kyungsoo as you’re both discreet about it for years.

“Mr. Kim, there’s a new coffee shop down the street. You can take a break if you want and please tell Chanyeol to get ready.”  the music editor nodded as he left the studio. 

“Oppa, are you okay? Oppa? You can take a break if you want.” You talked to him through the mic

He didn’t respond and still remained in the recording booth without any movement. This prompted you to enter the booth as well to console your best friend.

“Oppa, what happened? Is there something wrong? You can share it with me if you want” You console him as you patted his back

“Y/N, I can’t do this” His head still looking down

“What’s wrong, oppa? We can do this tomorrow. Rest for today”

“I miss you, Y/N” He suddenly said as he slowly crumbles the music sheet

“I miss you too, oppa.” You said quite taken aback as the feeling of sadness crept in your vein.

“Maybe you’re just too tired from your schedules. I’ll just ask Chanyeol to finish his part for today and maybe we...” 

“I heard Kyuhyun sunbae is courting you” He cut you off

You looked at him dumbfounded. How did he know? You suddenly remember that Kyuhyun is close with Junmyeon. He might have spilled it to Kyungsoo. But then you thought that this has nothing to do with the situation.

“Kyungsoo! This is not the time to gossip!” you slightly pushed his shoulder

“Aish! I’ll just buy your favorite pasta to cheer you up” 

As you’re about to leave the booth, you felt a tight grip on your wrist and looked behind to see Kyungsoo now staring at you with tears welling from his eyes.

“Don’t go, Y/N” the grip tightened 

“Kyungsoo...” You stood dead on your track as tears are also starting to form in your eyes

Kyungsoo suddenly hugged you from behind. You were caught by surprise as you’ve never been this close to him. You closed your eyes and feel his hug as if you’ve been wanting this for the longest time ever.

“Don’t leave me Y/N...don’t go out with Kyuhyun sunbaenim” He said with his deepest voice as you felt his tears on your shoulder. You looked at his hands on your waist bewildered.

What’s happening? Is this a confession? You thought as butterflies started to linger in your stomach

“Kyungsoo oppa, what are you talking about? Best friends don’t talk like this. I’m happy for you that you’re already seeing someone else. Can’t you be happy for me?”

He suddenly released you from his hug and turned you around to face him

“What are you talking about, Y/N?”

Flashback

*Few months ago*

“Y/N PD!” Baekhyun shouted

You turned around to find Baekhyun and Chanyeol trailing from behind.

“Baekhyun-ssi! How’s your musical? I heard it’s a big success!”

“Of course! By the way PDnim, how about joining us for dinner tonight?” He offered

You humbly declined because it’s your mom’s birthday that night.

“Don’t worry Y/N PD! We’ll still drink until midnight, maybe you can join us after dinner” Chanyeol butted in

“I’ll try. But will everyone be there? Even the staff?” Hoping that Kyungsoo will also be there as you haven’t seen the man for ages

“Yes! Except for Kyungsoo. That boy has been busy looking for a gift. He said he will give it to his special someone and propose to her on her birthday” Baekhyun followed

“I heard he ordered an expensive necklace with the girl’s initial on it! Wah uri Kyungsoo is now a big boy!” Chanyeol shouted in the hallway

...A special someone? You felt a sudden pain in your heart. This pain has never occurred to you. It hurts so much. It hurts more than the fact that he never told you about it. He has always been open to you about literally everything that has been going on with his life. You wondered if it is normal to feel this way when your best guy friend finally found his special someone. 

Weeks passed and you’re still miserable. Everytime you got a text from him, it takes everything to reply as if nothing’s wrong. One day you passed by their practice room and you saw him dancing. He caught your eye and flashed the brightest smile he could give. He was about to run after you but you can’t help your emotions and gave him a straight face as you went home. He even texted you and asked if you’re alright and you gave the lamest alibi of having a period on that day. It became more painful when you realized that you’re actually in love with him.

You were then shuffled for a few weeks under Super Junior. You produced one of their songs and somehow got close with Kyuhyun. This newfound friend brought you joy and helped you from moving on. He even accompanied you to watch an exo concert. Then came a day when Kyuhyun asked for your permission if he could court you. You are still confused for you are still in love with Kyungsoo but you thought that this might help you so you agreed. There’s even a rumor that Kyuhyun will propose on your birthday but you brushed everything aside

-End of Flashback-

“And you believed everything without even asking me? You silly!” Kyungsoo grabbed you again and hugged you tight.

“It’s you all along, Y/N...”

Tears finally escaped your eyes. You are still clueless but the pain that has been lingering on you vanished as you hugged him back. You felt his right hand went for his pocket to get a black velvet box. As he released you from his hug, you saw a stunning gold necklace with a heart that has your initials on it. 

“I’ve been meaning to tell you this for the longest time, Y/N. But I don’t have the courage to let everyone know. I’m sorry for being a coward. I lost it when I heard that Kyuhyun sunbaenim is courting you. I’ve been miserable ever since. I know right then and there that I can’t live a single day knowing you’re not mine. I don’t care anymore of what they’ll say. I love you, Y/N”

You kinda want to slap yourself to know if this is a dream. You burst out crying in his arms as he wiped your tears and he put the necklace on your neck. 

“I can’t wait any longer till your birthday. It’s yours Y/N. My heart is yours, all this time” 

He stared in your eyes and gently cupped your face as he placed his soft lips on yours. An indescribable feeling you have been secretly wanting ever since. You kissed him back and hugged each other once again. He then hummed in your ear the last part of the song

So look in my eyes I'll be by your side For life...
