Let me share with you my first year of teaching experiences...

If you are reading this, you are my friend most probably. I mean real-life friend, because nobody's gonna give a single damn for this kind of thing or post or whatever. And if you are my friend, you know that I am a graduate of BSEd major in English. So moving forward, my first opportunity was to teach a Grade 1 class. I accepted the job, for I believe God gave me this extraordinary chance. (Thank You Lord! 😇) At the very start, it was hard. Well, no job is easy anyway. But there is a huge difference. All throughout my 4 years in college, I have imagined myself teaching High School students, it is because that is what I am studying for. But, where am I after a month or so since my graduation day?

I had a hard time handling the kids. They were at their adjustment and formative stage. And so am I.

After 3 weeks, I felt like giving up. I was actually about to give up. But my superior told me this exact line "Teacher, wag mong sukatin ang kakayahan mo sa 3 weeks lang." hits me hard, which made me come to my senses again. Months have passed, I finally enjoyed my job.

Eventually, I realized that it is about my perception on what I am doing.

Reality check : I honestly think I did not acquire Professional Growth in my first year of teaching, which makes me sad. But, I gained Personality Growth. I think, that's more important.

I am always after the fulfilment. Yung malaman ko lang na may natutunan yung anak ko (student) sakin, fulfilment yon as a teacher.

Alam ko hindi ako ang nagturo sa kanila magbasa, pero alam ko din na may ilan pa din sakanila na natutong magbasa dahil sakin. Another fulfilment: ✔

Next, yung at the end of the day alam mong yung tinuro mo sa kanila ay magagamit nila in real~world context. AT napatunayan mo yun...

I have this student na while we're in the car during the motorcade may nadaanan kmeng construction site and out-of-the-blue she said, "Teacher, yan po yung sinasabi nyo na dangerous area dun sa lesson natin? Yung bwal po namin puntahan kasi bka maaksidente?" (nv) I answered. After that, I felt happy. Genuinely happy. Some of you may say, ang babaw, but for me it's not. Why? Because I know, I have imparted something to my students. For which, they could use forever. Yun bang kapag malaki na sila masasabi nilang "Turo ni Teacher Cherry ganito ganyan".

Well, that's just one of those instances.

Some parents may say, their kids did not learn any from me. Pero sa awa ng Diyos wala pa naman nagsasabi nyan hehe ✌ May mga kids na tutok sa pag-aaral, bookish ganun, pero meron din namang innate yung talino. Individual differences.

I have learned bucketful during my first year of teaching. Na yung dating isinasagot ko sa essays, eh gagawin ko pala in reality. Kung pano ako magtuturo magbasa. Kung pano ko ihahandle mga batang hyper or out-of-focus. Kung pano ko sila ididiscipline. And all other things.

So far, I can confidently say that I am happy with my vocation. Isang araw nasabi ko na lang, "Gusto ko pala talaga magturo." Regardless sa level. Because either way, I want to help kids. Gaya nga ng sabi ni Sen. Miriam, "I love the youth." 💟💞 (But if given the chance to teach secondary students I would still grab it. 😂)
