Tonight Shax rests easy in his seat, legs crossed, collar unbuttoned against the warmth of day that still lingers long after the sun has gone, lips pursed in thought against the rim of his glass. There is too much to consider about the human, and not nearly enough time to admire God’s handiwork – credit where credit is due, of course. Even Shax is not so arrogant that he fails appreciate his Father’s efforts.
But he is not quite Shax, anymore – is he? Tonight he is reborn as Simon, and this is entirely for the human's benefit.
“Or perhaps you live in mine. Either way, it is a pleasure to be so close to someone that I would consider a friend.” His hand encloses around Suriel’s, briefly. “A dear friend, I would daresay. Though we have known each other only a short while.”
The notion is not a clever one. Clergymen are seldom touched, as their devotions make them nearly impossible to reach. A demon’s corrupting influence is lost on those holy bodies – and especially, Shax thinks of this last part with a consuming hunger, of holy bodies and the not-entirely-holy sort of things one could do to them – but the priest is far too beautiful. A creature to be immortalized in colored glass and raised on high in his church’s own hallowed halls; of such purity and unwavering convictions that Shax is given pause as to whether this being is truly an angel, and not simply named for one. It seems not to be the case, and so it must follow that this beautiful priest will belong to Shax.
“Forgive me, for you must think I am immodest with my wealth. and be assured that my money comes through legal means – ” He speaks with earnest, and words layered with enchantment meant to lull the priest into believing. “ – and much of what you have seen was already here when I moved in. Convenient – I have a poor eye for decoration.” A laugh, soft and husky, passes his lips and cheeks are so very rosy as he delights in the attention being paid to him. When eyes linger upon the collar that sits at his throat and on the throat, itself – alluring though it is, to touch it now would be impossible. Foolhardy. Not yet. His fingers trace across the stem of his glass, the tip of his tongue wetting thoughtful lips, it is the idea of stroking Suriel’s own skin that makes the motion seductive. “But I would much rather speak of your own profession. Indeed, everything about you is of great curiosity to me.”
He laughs - picking up the glass next to him by the stem and pressing the rim of it against his still smiling lips. A distraction, however small, from the hand that had been laid atop his own (even if it was ever so briefly). The touch has been comforting, friendly, something he had missed within the years he had been devoted to the church. Of course there had been kind touches and embraces from his fellow priests and even a few from exuberant parishioners. Even so, the touch had never lingered quite the same way.
Perhaps, it had more to do with the man on the other side of such gestures than the touch itself.
“My profession?” he set the glass down - drained of it’s contents - as he relaxed back within the chair, settling an amused look upon the man next to him. “There’s not much to say that you don’t already know. Being a Priest isn’t the most private of occupations. Or the most exciting.” he paused. “And I’m sure I’ve talked your ear off about the comings and goings of the church far more often than is polite.”
“Though - if you are insistent, I am ready to answer whatever question you may have. As always.” The words were uttered with a smile - a fondness touching his features as he looked towards Simon. His friend - however close they had become - was still a mystery to him in many ways. Though, he would admit, a pleasant one.
“Unless you want to talk about your own profession - if so, I’m all ears.”

Things You Said… (?) @beguiiling
1) things you said at 1 am
If he closed his eyes he could almost imagine sitting within those gardens again. Feeling the heat on his neck and feeling the ever so slight breeze from the ocean rustling through his hair. With closed eyes he could imagine that the moonlight that was cast over him was the moon of a different hemisphere, could imagine someone sitting next to him. Could perhaps even feel the warmth of a hand pressed against his own.
Yet when he opened his eyes all he saw was the moonlight painting the still and quiet park around him. The bench he sat on empty besides his own presence, his hand achingly empty.
“I miss you.”
Only the wind answered.
2) things you said through your teeth
His breathing hitched - teeth biting together as Shax’s hands smoothed along his back. His own hands braced in front of him against the bed - face pressed into the soft embrace of a silken pillow. Body taut against the ministrations of the one behind him.
“Please - “
3) things you said too quietly
They had fought - a seemingly more and more common occurrence in the wake of their reunion. Shax had stormed off, currently engaged at the opposite side of the room in pouring more liquor into his glass. The crystal reflecting the light as an amber liquid was hastily poured inside. He was spouting words of annoyance at him - at his attitude, his perceived indifference towards him.
“I love you.” the words were barely a whisper. Shocking himself at how easily they had rushed out, he swallowed heavily watching the figure across the room for any indication they had heard them. Heart hammering in his chest, drowning out any of the words that continued to spill from Shax’s mouth.
His heart tightened and his mouth ran dry - Shax had not heard them.
Nor did he have the strength to utter them again.
4) things you said over the phone
The phone had been something given to him. Something in which Shax had proferred upon him to shorten the distance between them when they were miles and miles apart. As was more often the case with Shax it was frequently abused as a method of him saying entirely lurid things to him while not even being in the same room.
“I am currently wearing a sweater, the small tag on the inside states that it is 100% wool. Do you wish to know the configuration of materials involved within the pants I am presently wearing as well?”
He didn’t always understand the appeal of some of the questions - and if he did he was certainly not going to give Shax the satisfaction of playing along.
At least not all the time.
5) things you didn’t say at all
“I don’t love you.”
The words never left his mouth - how could they? When they were possibly the most untrue thought he had ever possessed. It felt wrong to think them, the feeling intensifying in the knowledge that some part of him wanted to say them. Just to see what Shax would do in the wake of them.
6) things you said under the stars and in the grass
“This is -” he paused, glancing to the face next to his own. Feeling the dampness of the grass press against his own clothes. No doubt he would hear Shax’s complaints on the state of his own clothing when they were once again within the warm confines of his home. Hearing him fret and call for Judith to right them to a fitting state.
But for now this was peaceful - something that was contained by their amiable silence and the way that Shax’s fingers rubbed soothing circles along his own knuckles.
“ - perfect.”
7) things you said while we were driving
He looked at Shax - fitting him with a look as they careened through the pleasant countryside.
“Do you even own a license for this vehicle?”
8) things you said when you were crying
“I am a fool.”
9) things you said when i was crying
“Forgive me.” he said, pressing a kiss against Shax’s temple. Feeling his hands press alongside those strong shoulders till they held Shax close, their bodies pressed tight together.
10) things you said that made me feel like shit
“Why don’t you find someone else then - if my presence is so taxing.” The words were spoken bitterly and without the care and thought of what would come after.
“Perhaps that human that shared your bed, I’m sure they would love to listen how you are once again tired of me.”
11) things you said when you were drunk
“Take me home -” he whispered, hot and urgent against Shax’s ear. The party around them fading in the haze of warmth and sound. Of the feel of hands upon his jaw - a kiss pressed against his neck.
“Please.”
12) things you said when you thought i was asleep
“So handsome.” he said quietly - hoping against all hope to have said them silently enough not to rouse Shax from his slumber. And when those blue eyes opened, Shax’s mouth fitting into a smirk all he could do was feel his cheeks burn - turning his head into the pillows to escape that smug look. Escaping, in vain, from hands that took hold of him so easily.
13) things you said at the kitchen table
“No.” he said firmly. Eyes closed as he took another sip from the teacup within his hands. His brow furrowed slightly, opening his eyes and looking at Shax with a disapproving look - setting the cup down firmly on the table between them.
“No.”
The foot trailed further up his leg, a look of infernal satisfaction plastered over the face of the demon across from him. Another ‘no’ hot on the trail of the last one as the foot caressed the skin under his pant leg.
14) things you said after you kissed me
“You are a complete and utter imbecile.” the words were rushed, and yet for all the insult within them they were happy ones. Fond tones overtaking the more bitter ones that had preceded them. He leaned in once again, pressing another kiss to the Shax’s lips. A laugh threatened to spill from his mouth but it was muffled, his throat constricting as warring emotions tore throughout him.
“I should hate you.”
( But I could never. )
15) things you said with too many miles between us
“When will I stop missing you?”
He already knew the answer of course, a clear and simple ‘Never’.
16) things you said with no space between us
“Perhaps -” he said lightly, taking a moment to tighten the tie around Shax’s neck.
“ -one day, you will not need Judith or I to help you get dressed.” he allowed himself to smile as he looked down at the reasonable job he had done. Smoothing the folds in the white shirt with his hands, pausing as they hovered over his heart.
“One day.”
18) things you said when you were scared
His arms raised up, crossed over his face as he closed his eyes tightly. Feeling those familiar hands caress his chest, felt their light and heated touches - filled with the aching need they left behind. His heart beat ever faster with each touch, each press of those lips against his flesh. His breathing becoming harried - uneven with each moment that pressed on.
He was scared - scared that history would repeat itself. Scared of what he would do if it happened again. Terrified of the love he could feel still brimming from within himself, threatening to spill over and reveal everything in front of the only one it mattered to.
“Shax.”
19) things you said when we were the happiest we ever were
“Can you pass the sugar?” He didn’t look up, continuing instead to read from the book held tightly within his own grasp. He consumed the words eagerly hardly noticing as the seconds ticked by into minutes. His free hand, which had been twirling a teaspoon within it’s digits stilled as if sensing a gaze upon him, eyes meeting with blue ones that looked upon him expectantly - motioning with their own movements to the small bowl within Shax’s hands.
A wry smile was offered to him and he returned the gesture, voice tilting in a laugh as he set the book down on the table between them.
“Please.” he offered, reaching out a hand of his own.
22) things you said after it was over
It was over.
Everything and nothing at the same time. The hand that curled around Shax possessively was not his, the arm and body it was attached to one that was entirely unlike his own. It was as if someone had stolen the breath from his lungs and he found he could not speak - his mouth dry as he watched as Shax’s head tilted to look at him. That same self satisfied smile that he had seen a million times for a host of different reasons plastered across that face. And while he saw the handsomeness in it - that same face he had touched so fondly earlier, pressing a kiss where red makeup now seemed endlessly smeared across it - it was now wholly wrong.
The world had somehow upturned itself in a moment. Everything within it coming to a screeching halt. Shax talked - not enough to hear the woman beneath him laugh and paw at him - and he came to feel that the world would never be right for him again. For others it would continue on as it ever had. But as he heard those words - dismissive to their very last - he felt as if his world would never begin turning again. It would remain stuck, just as he was. Remaining forever halted upon a set of hands pressed upon flesh that wasn’t his own.
“I see.”
How he wished he hadn’t.

“Shax -”
The words fell from his mouth, whispered as the hot breath that was exhaled with them ghosted along the tip of an ear. Leaning over the body below him, head buried within brown locks as his hands sought purchase anywhere they could find. His chest, a shoulder - the soft and silken sheets underneath them - anywhere to aid in the languid motions set by his own hips. The body below filling him, his entire being with a fervor that none before had incited.
Such intense feelings only for the angel beneath him.
Just as they had always been.
This was wrong. It was a fact he knew and yet he was left unable to do anything to stop such desires from taking hold. Unwilling to, the harsher truth. To yearn for Shax’s touch as he did - to feel the heat, the incessant need, of their bodies pressed together. To twist and pull until Shax gave into his every wish - his every whim - until there was nothing but the two of them. Wrong, to invite and encourage such an innocent into his own sin.
Yet all sense seemed to fade in the wake of that familiar and all too welcome face. To see that smile that burned oh so radiantly - brighter than even what he could remember of heaven’s light. And even still, deep inside him - despite all that had occurred in the wears since - he could remember it being a beacon.
His breathing hitches, a hand winding it’s way up Shax’s body till it cups his face. Caressing that perfect jaw as he shifted slightly till he was once again looking down upon that glorious visage. Eyes hooded as his head once again dipped down, this time to place a soft kiss to those lips. Hips never breaking their movements despite the sounds that were drawn out from his own mouth at their fervid intimacy.
He drew out another kiss, placing them along his lips and trailing them to his jaw. Light and airy against heat of the skin beneath his ministrations. He murmured the words against that skin, feeling it move against him with each word that ushered from his own lips. “I - Is-” he paused, his face pushed flush against the crook of Shax’s neck “Is this - pleasing?”.
Everything within him needed it to be.
Shax realizes, perhaps too late, that this was not the right thing to say, and that maybe he was never good at saying the right thing to begin with. I love you. His other hand joins the first, clutching at Suriel’s skull until nails bite into flesh. He is afraid to let go, to lose this connection. Blood leaks beneath his trembling claws. He will not let go. “How can I – ?”
“How can I?” Shax repeats this fragment. How can I? And how can he? “Would that I knew so that I might give you an answer – but I am lost.” A shivery sigh follows this revelation. “So lost-…you have such sad eyes, beloved.” Tentative lips rest once more against the other’s. He wouldn’t mind being lost, if only it were because of his angel. Instead it is the mistakes of his own making that have twisted him around – as ever, Shax is slave to them – and perhaps this interlude is a mistake, too. He eases his grip upon the abused flesh held captive in his uncertainty. His fingertips leave smudges of red where they come to rest against the slope of Suriel’s jaw. “Please.” The next kiss is less gentle. There is unease in the way that Shax’s tongue presses against the other’s, and it is all too brief a joining.
“It breaks my heart to see you look this way – if only you would smile for me, again. I would give you the world for it.”
His hand tightens its hold on Shax’s, feeling the heat emanate under his grasp and winding it’s way through his very being. Settling, he was sure, somewhere near his heart. Fanned by the warmth and intensity of Shax’s eyes upon him, even more so by the heat of kisses - of that wicked tongue that brushed past his own - burning with the need to repeat the action again and again.
“Time.” He says with some air of certainty, searching Shax’s gaze with his own. “I have been told that time -” he paused shifting his head ever so slightly into the hand at his jaw. “Time is the healer of many things, even of hearts.” It is less of a lie to himself and more a wish - something he would admit to himself in quiet moments. The ones that lingered and made every stray thought bubble to the surface. The though that perhaps somehow - in some way - things could be as they once were.
His face softened as the edges of his mouth quirked up into a smile - never quite reaching his eyes despite the effort. “I - I just need more time.”
Many words are written about the distance that grows between lovers, of the oceans that surge into the space left between – cold, unyielding, impossible to cross – but they never seem to warn of the salt water air upon open wounds. How it will sting and sting and sting – Shax’s wounds are raw and gaping.
He is willing to drown.
“Things that you don’t want to hear?"
This is dangerous to say. Shax offers Suriel his throat, and expects to be mauled. He would urge the angel to attack, himself, with digits still clinging to that rough skin. Tighter and tighter, his fingertips seem to press into the other’s cheek, until he can feel bone. ”Why?“ The previous question will have to remain unanswered; his mind has already given him the worst of these whys.
"Do you not love me anymore?”
But, suddenly, the ocean is very deep and he does not remember how to swim.
The fingers upon his cheek dig and dig - the sting that blossomed underneath the normally controlled touch should have jarred him. Forced him to move, to get away from the hand that so tightly held him. And yet he found he could not. The sting quickly fading in the wake of words that came crashing around him.
“How can you ask me that?”
His cruelties truly knew no bounds.
Was his own presence here not enough? How he sat here in the others company for hours at end, spending his nights within the walls of Shax’s home - within his bed - once more. How could he be here - with what Shax had done to him - and not still be in love with him? To come as soon as the letter had found it’s way to him - to pour over every letter and stare into it’s depths and only see a face - feel that phantom touch of hands - he had long since resigned himself to never experience again.
How can Shax so easily forget that it was his love that had been called into question - that it was he who had washed his hands so thoroughly of what they had shared seemingly in an instant.
How could he even tell him?

At first there is sadness, and bitterness, and then anger – at the sadness. These feelings are unkind, and they don’t suit his handsome face.
“Tea, then?” He twists his head away so that he wont have to look into Suriel’s eyes. “Or water, if you insist on being like this.” No elaboration comes as to what ‘this’ is, but his eyes do flicker forward once again to drink in the sight of him – beauty can not be ignored for long, and Shax has gone too long without.
His last memories of the two of them are fond. Of them, together. There is a cafe, somewhere. There are drinks between them, too expensive to waste, yet hardly touched. He’s trying to fix Suriel’s collar ( so unkempt! It’s a wonder people let you anywhere! ) but this is only a ruse, for it’s quickly abandoned in favor of drawing him into another kiss. This is their fifth since they were seated, and they have only been seated a short while. A smile, unseen but felt on his lips. ’I love you’, he whispers his devotion against Suriel’s ear. ’I love your body’, Suriel’s cheeks flush, and he casts an anxious glance around – the angel has no confidence in whispers. But what if someone were to hear? Shax laughs at his concern.
The true memory is of betrayal. His own. Nothing has ever shook him as deeply as Suriel’s face does that night. There is horror, and anger, and such grief he had feared the other broken by it. He doesn’t want to remember those parts, but they persist in his head, and five years isn’t long enough to forget. Unfamiliar hands paw at him; they beg him to return to bed. They are soft. Too needy. He wishes that they belonged to Suriel instead.
It had to be done, for his sake – demons are convincing liars, even to themselves.
But now Shax twists himself around the creature he adores so much, eager to abandon his mistakes. Fingers that are meant to keep him at bay are trapped within his own and used to bring Suriel even closer. This feels good. But it would feel better, he decides, if they were making love. Though….it wouldn’t be love, would it? Not anymore. Scarcely even a shadow of the bond once shared, and liable to leave him only with a terrible wanting for more than he’s allowed to have. Better to not, then, and hope that Suriel hasn’t noticed how miserable his expression becomes – even if he must surely feel how Shax trembles against his back.
“If not because you have been seduced by my words, then you have come to-…what? Accuse me of being a poor host? Berate me for the contents of my letter? Declare my company unfavorable as if you were not an equally willing participant?” His mouth is twisted in a sneer, teeth clenched against an onslaught of words he can’t trust himself to say. “Do fond memories not soften you any? Perhaps you have grown too cold in our time apart-…”
“…or perhaps not, beloved, for you still feel plenty warm to me.”
The words - for there are many - wash over him with a familiarity that erases some of the more audacious implications. The ones meant to get a rise out of him, to be the cause of that blush that so often heated his own face. To drive him to annoyance or to consternation with a single word, a glance, pulled in every direction by statements said so easily.
He lets his hand, and his body rest within the eager embrace, twisted within Shax’s grip. Ignoring, at least in part, the slight tremor that he felt upon his back. No doubt caused by some amusement the other felt - always at his own expense. Turning his head forcibly away from the sight of the smirk plastered upon the others lips, the look in Shax’s eyes. As if nothing had happened. His own eyes sweeping over the gardens before them, an easy distraction from the heat upon his back - from the breath he could feel ghosting over his neck.
“I don’t know why I came.” he said softly, the words flowing easily off of his tongue. It was the truth after all, no matter how disappointing it may have been to his companions ears. A thousand small thoughts could answer it, not a single one of them answered what he felt when he had finally looked upon Shax’s figure again - his face, heard the way those words fell from his lips, remembering the press of them against him - the initial reason for his visit ringing hollow with every passing moment.
“Perhaps -” he said quietly. “I only came to see this view.”
And all the memories that accompanied it.
The words themselves felt foreign upon his lips - something teasing within them that he could not recall using for a number of years. The humor within them something empty and forced. It was hard to force those words out rather than turn once again to man embracing him - to look at him with sorrowful eyes and address him with a - still - heartbroken tone. To no doubt tell Shax everything he wanted to hear.
The image of that night the only thing stopping him. Of the betrayal - not only Shax’s but how he had betrayed himself. Letting himself believe and hope as he had not before. Letting himself want what he knew he should not.
He would not so easily repeat such a thing - no matter how he wished for it.
“Satisfied? Oh, Suriel – to stand in your presence gives me all the satisfaction that I need.” A deep sigh follows. He tastes what little the angel has given him upon his lips, and leans in to recapture it with a kiss of his own. His lips don’t linger overlong, but his fingers are slow to part with the cheek it rests upon.
“But for you to kiss me-…I am rapturous."
@princesuriel (X)
The fingers against his cheek hold him steady, the kiss that so easily followed his own pressed upon him. Fighting off the instinct to move his lips against the ones that had so easily captured his - to close his eyes and yearn for the action to be repeated again. Immediately killing the small keen, the hitch in his breath, that threatened to spill from him as those lips parted from his own. ‘It would be so easy.’ He thought - to push forward again and steal another kiss, to fall into the easy rhythm they had once created.
Instead he turns his head slightly, gaze instead fixed on a far away wall instead of the demon before him. “The things you say.”
All lies - were the unspoken words that died on the tip of his tongue.
“Does anyone, my love?”
Fingers are quick to slip beneath his jaw, and he tilts the angel’s face so that they must look at one another – and to look upon Suriel’s face, he must entertain notions once thought too absurd to consider. Of the sullen eyes and wondrous lips, that are surely the inspiration of much angelic portraiture, and of how he has known no love greater than what he feels for Suriel. Love. As though he is a heart-sick poet, looking to fill page after page of inane rambling on the subject.
( but, OH! How he has done just that. )
“Yet poor lovers we would be if we let that prevent us from sharing in this pleasure.” A thumb dares to trespass across his lips, dipping between to part them in anticipation for what should come, and in every touch that Shax so boldly places on the angel he understands that Hell may soon follow. Best to enjoy this time together, then, before their maker sees fit to punish His wayward children.
"I should very much like to show you, if you’d let me.“
He feels the hand upon his chin - eyes threatening to close under the firm pressure of the digits upon him. Feeling their heat strike something within him as his head was tilted back - forcing their gazes to meet - almost melting into the hand holding him as the fingers flexed along his jaw. Lips parting ever so slightly under the pressure of Shax’s thumb, each heated breath he took ghosting over the tip. Feeling it’s way along, dipping in until he was sure he could taste it upon his tongue - throughout his entire being.
He dared not think about anything else - all other thoughts cast out almost as soon as they came to him. Their father, brothers, every thought about what this sin would bring them, bring him cast into nothingness. They were thoughts for another time, a time when they were not wound so deeply around one another. When those eyes were not boring holes into his very soul, his flesh.
He nodded his head slowly, careful to keep Shax’s gaze. Feeling the burning of that look - of the action he had just made - to his very core. “Show me.” He said quietly, the words almost unsure as they came out of his mouth. Closing his eyes to lean his head into the hand still cupping his face with such tenderness.
Such Love.

If you begrudged me but a single kiss, then I would count myself among those who have been blessed by angels -- though I'm infinitely unworthy.
He was aware he was being watched expectantly as each word was spoken. Blue eyes trained upon him relentlessly as that face hovered inches from his own. Feeling the heat emanating from his presence, too warm and far too close. His own eyes averted to Shax’s collar - crisp and pressed as always - a distraction so he wouldn’t need to look into his companions eyes and see what was there.
See just how far the lie went - how far Shax would string him along this time.
How far he would follow.
His lips pressed together and with eyes still downcast he leaned forward, closing the small gap between them as he pressed a chaste kiss to his companions mouth. Remembering in that press of lips kisses far less chaste and vastly more primal that had been shared between them. A hot breath of air exhaling from him as he leaned back once more - chancing to glance into the orbs which studied him.
“Are you satisfied, Shax?” the words were soft. Every particle that made up his being focused on keeping his body still - stopping his fingers from touching the lips that felt as if burned by his previous action, halting his tongue from tracing the place where they had met.
