Young Shauna Vanity Fair Outfit Breakdown:

I feel like I talked about this shirt before but I couldn’t find it so maybe I didn’t actually make a specific post, either way I’ll cover it again.

I haven’t been able to find the exact flannel seen in the show but the pattern featured on it is called a “Stewart Scotch Plaid/ Tartan.” I also know that Shauna is wearing a Men’s shirt based off of the side the buttons are on. The photo on the top left is of a men’s L.L. Bean Scotch Plaid as an example (and as a close match) to show what Shauna’s shirt more or less looks like.

They used a lot of vintage in the Pilot and I’d guess the flannel could be as well but there’s a lot of shirts out there with this pattern so I couldn’t really determine if it’s modern or not either way.

Shauna wears a St. John's Bay Men's Flannel in the pilot. According to my research Henry Cavill wore the same shirt when he played Superman in Justice League (my reference picture on the left shows the shirt that was used in the movie). But that’s not the most interesting thing.

These are reference photos for the second episode “F Sharp.” If you look closely you can see Shauna’s plane outfit actually changes between the two episodes! Her stripe shirt and flannel in F Sharp are similar but different to what she originally wore in the Pilot. Her stripe shirt goes from full of stripes to a different one with spread out stripes. The flannel in the Pilot is overall brighter and has a different pattern than the one in F Sharp.

In interviews Marie Schley (the Yellowjackets costume designer) has talked about using vintage pieces in the pilot and so I wonder if Shauna’s original outfit was second hand. To further back up this theory, the Justice League movie was shot during 2016 which would date the flannel to at least that year. The Yellowjackets pilot on the other hand was shot in 2019 and I don’t know how likely it is that it was still being sold 3 years later unless they got it second hand. If it was thrifted, that could explain why the costume department switched out the original outfit for different pieces in F Sharp.

CLOSE MATCH: The Yellowjackets wear shorts similar to the Umbro “Checkered Shorts.”

Alright. I haven’t been able to find the exact top Shauna wears at the end of the Pilot but here is a Close Match:

This Madewell “striped short sleeve cropped tee” is a close match to Shauna’s shirt. It has similar colored stripes and a silhouette reminiscent to that of Shauna’s shirt. However, the collar is different and so is the fact that it has a front pocket.

I am not sure but there is also a possibility that Shauna’s shirt might be vintage. Costume designer Marie Schley has talked about using vintage pieces in the Pilot and so there’s basis to the idea of the shirt being vintage or at least second hand.

Along with this, the shirt changes between the Pilot and episode 01x02 “F Sharp,” which suggests to me that they didn’t have multiples of the shirt available (which might happen if it’s second hand). After the Pilot we don’t see this shirt again but the shirt that replaces it is seen throughout seasons 1 and 2.

This replacement shirt that Shauna wears is the Madewell “Whisper Cotton Rib-Crewneck Tee” in the color “Myrtle Stripe.”

As for the belt there’s a couple of options for it. The reference photo you sent in is a promo which features a different belt than what she wears in the actual episode “Blood Hive.”

In the episode Jackie wears a Women’s Blue and Teal Striped Ribbon Belt by PoplarLaneBelts on Etsy. There’s other belts with the same stripe pattern that I’ve seen on eBay from different sellers but they have a backing that isn’t seen on the one Jackie wears.

I haven’t been able to find the one in the promo just yet but I’ll keep looking! Hopefully you found this helpful! :)

According to Juliette Lewis, Natalie’s leather jacket is from the brand LBLC The Label. Of the jackets I could find I think it’s probably the “Mena Moto Jacket.”

I don’t really have the resources I need to make any of those crowns so I can’t give a tutorial but here are some reference photos you could go of of and my analysis of what the crowns are made with.

Jackie’s Crown:

For Jackie’s crown it looks like the main part is wrapped floral wire (loosely) braided around her head. Then on the side there’s (faux) fall leaves arranged kind of in a flower shape with a couple leaf sprigs as well as orange hanging vines that drape down.

Lottie’s Crown:

The main part of Lottie’s crown is made out of woven twigs that then raise up to make the spines(?) of the crown. It might be easier to do this with faux flower stems as they usually have metal cores that you can bend into shape.

The Antler Headress:

According to costume designer Marie Schley, the antler headdress sits on top of a headband and has a vintage crochet dress for the veil. The deer skull is the main focal point but I’d recommend you don’t get a real skull because it’d probably be too heavy to wear around. Theres also leaf strands, flowers, and pine and cedar sprigs throughout the headdress and even jewelry such as a ring on one of the antlers, and the round earrings seen in the crafting scene earlier on in the episode.
