worth the wait

“Right…”  Roderick started slowly, glancing at the person in front of him and reaching up to take the cigarette from between his lips.  “I’m sure that whatever you were saying is fascinating…but you might want to start over.  I wasn’t listening to a word.”

“She chose me?” Ginny had always thought that Lilith taking over her had been a random choice- that it could have been any little girl; apparently not. “Wait… you’re saying if I increase my powers, I’ll have more control? Not less?” She shouldn’t listen to him. She should just walk away and figure out what she was going to do with those texts, but Ginny had always feared her powers. What if he was right? “… Who are you?” He had said his name, but that still hadn’t cleared anything up.

“no? guess dakota ain’t for everyone. but hey,  there’s bound to be a club for that now- being dropped here. probably not long before the support group starts up meetings every other thursday. see you there?”

Ginny’s eyes widened a fraction when he said her name, “It’s Ginny.” Sure, she could question how he knew her name, but the rest of what he was saying was hitting her harder. “No you didn’t, Lilith did. I don’t want them enhanced, I want to be normal!” He said his name, but nothing clicked into place, and she still had those awful messages telling her to drink demon blood and everything was awful. “I don’t know you.”

“You… You do know that sounds kind of creepy when you say it that way?” 

“I… would also say that I’ll see you around, but… I kinda hope I don’t.” That dude was creepy. Like seriously.

Nah, maybe he didn’t, but Kieran preferred to treat people the way he wanted to be treated. “Well. Thanks, man.” 

“Good.” Kieran mumbled, a slightly confused look showing on his features. This was a weird encounter, that was for sure. “I… suppose I should thank you?” Probably. But he was a little too freaked out to tell wrong from right.

“At least you seem to be honest and aware of your personality.” Kieran mumbled. “Oh, great. Guess that means I have to go find it. Any directions you can give me? I kind of… I don’t want to explode before I talked to my family.” 

“Well, shit. You’re not very nice, are you? Could you at least tell me if there’s some kind of a… uh… a homeless shelter around here? Or something? I’d… I would appreciate that.” 

“A few months? That does not make me feel any better.”” 

“whatever it is i could probably take it!”

“that kinda makes me wanna know more.”

“But wait, that means… how long have you been stuck here?” 

“So I’m alive again, just to be stuck in another cage? That’s just great.” 

“then what does matter mr?”

“it could be a smaller town. bad food. no clothing stores.”
