SIGYN

In Norse mythology, Sigyn stands as a profound symbol of unwavering loyalty, resilience, and quiet strength. Known as the goddess of victory and loyalty, she is the devoted wife of Loki and the mother of Vali* and Narvi. Far from the passive figure depicted in later retellings, Sigyn is a powerful and enduring presence within the Norse pantheon, often called “Loki’s Treasure” or “The Delight of Loki’s Hall” by modern pagans.

Sigyn is Loki’s most steadfast supporter, standing by him when all others have turned away. This loyalty is most evident during Loki’s brutal punishment for his role in Baldr’s death. After Odin turned Vali into a wolf, the poor boy lost his mind and slaughtered his brother Narvi. Sigyn, though heartbroken, did not retreat in grief. Instead, she rose in defiance.

While Loki was chained beneath the earth, tortured by venom dripping from a serpent’s fangs, Sigyn shielded her husband as best she could, holding a bowl to catch the poison. Unfortunately, she had to leave from time to time to empty bowl, and the poison burned Loki’s flesh, causing him to convulse in agony. His screams are believed to cause earthquakes.

Modern pagans associate her with the fox, an animal symbolizing cunning and adaptability, mirroring her own quiet yet fierce nature.

* Vali Lokison, not to be confused with Vali Odinson, God of Vengeance, son of Odin and the unfortunate Giantess Rindr.

I have always been a fan of ghost in the shell in all its forms, but this latest adaptation by Science Saru is truly magnificent.

It’s like the saturation is turned up to eleven.

Motoko is a bisexual/pansexual again.

The comedic hyperbole of the characters is so well placed and manic it makes my neurons tingle.

It’s such a great adaptation that is so much more inkeeping with the original mangas manic energy and exaggerated characters than the previous seriousness of the other adaptations.
