Sylus And Selene Through The Years: Jealousy (From Sylus Point Of View) Part 4 of 6
Author notes: English isn’t my first language, Selene is Xavier’s younger sister, the non mc of the story has a name and a specified appearance but can be read as a reader (if you don’t like the oc), mention of Selene’s curse.
This was supposed to out last month but life and university got in the way, I’m so sorry for the delay
highly recommend reading: part 1, part 2, part 3 or check Selene’s information chart to get to know her better
Year 4 (Sylus: 25, Selene: 26)
Sylus despised the light; in fact, both sunlight and the brightness of the city constantly irritated and hurt his scarlet eyes, yet there had been some rare cases in which the white-haired man stepped out of his domain in the shadows of the N109 zone. One of his reasons for doing so was the gorgeous blonde woman who was his partner, and who he knew was visiting her older brother Jeremiah’s flower shop or at least according to the tracking device he’d secretly planted on her phone when his partner wasn’t looking, but whether or not this was an intrusion into his lover's privacy hardly mattered to the former dragon (After all, it's just to ensure his lover's well-being), besides, he loved seeing his Selene surrounded by her friends and her brother; and for the white-haired man, those were reasons enough to endure the pain inflicted by the light (besides, he needed to deliver his anniversary gift to Selene)
Jeremiah’s shop stood in one of the older districts of Linkon, and despite the major modernisation the area had experienced since the catastrophe, Selene’s brother’s shop had retained that timeless charm; perhaps it’s because every time he went there, he found himself transported back in time to the days of his former life, where the ancient dragon could remember what it was like to be loved and accepted before his horns appeared, and became increasingly difficult to hide. Perhaps that was the reason he enjoyed visiting his future brother-in-law’s shop (although he hasn’t proposed to Selene yet, he was making plans on how to propose to her in a way she would want) , as he walked toward the shop, the white-haired man noticed how some people were watching him from a distance. Some of the looks from the neighborhood residents were filled with fear, while others were filled with curiosity, however, the white-haired man paid them no attention. The only thing that mattered to him at that time was feeling his lover's arms around his neck as she laughed with joy at seeing him, because nothing in the world could possibly compare to that feeling in the sight of the white-haired man.
The opening of the door and the chime announcing a customers arrival in the shop were drowned out by the voices coming from the storage room; Selene’s voice sounded uneasy, yet Sylus was unable to make out the subject of the argument between his partner and the individual whose voice he recognized from the incessant announcements by the hunters’ association, but could not specifically identify to whom it might belong. Every step the scarlet-eyed man took increased the tension in the air around him. - You really need to be more careful on your missions… The first thing in your mind should be your condition… - A man’s voice caught Sylus’s attention, a voice that the scarlet-eyed man associated with the top hunter on the Unicorns team. But whatever he was arguing with HIS SELENE was lost among the foliage and containers Jeremiah placed in the storage room in the shop - I get it, I do, but people were in danger… believe me, I understand, - said the one whose eyes were of a bluish-violet color, speaking in a drained, lifeless voice, as if they’d had this argument more than once and never reached a satisfactory conclusion -I'm worried about you, Star…. Right now, you're the only one I care about - the words of the association's top hunter stopped the white-haired man in his steps, and silence filled the backroom hallway, but even that couldn't silence the white-haired man's thoughts, his main one being - “Who the hell does he believe himself to be, being concerned for MY SELENE?” - The one with the scarlet eyes noticed that the fiery flames of his anger were igniting within his heart; his old instincts demanded that he enter the room and deal with whatever he considered a threat to what was rightfully his. - Have you already told him about…? - The hunter resumed the conversation after a lengthy silence, and whatever that bastard was about to say was interrupted by his blonde’s scream - NO… - The very fact of Selene raising her voice concerned Sylus, given that he knew very well the blonde never raised her voice (even when the twins or the white-haired one stepped out of line, she remained calm) - I’m so sorry, I hadn’t meant to scream at you, Xav… but I simply cannot tell Sylus the whole and truth, I doubt he’d even forgive me - the words of the young blonde managed to make the white-haired man’s heart stop, as he began to wonder what she was keeping from him that could be so dreadful that his Selene would believe he’d never be able to forgive her - I know… I'm sorry I put you in such a tight spot - said the star hunter, his calm and neutral voice making the white-haired man's blood boil, especially since he seemed to be emulating the blonde's speaking patterns. Their conversation continued to follow its natural course, yet Sylus wasn't listening to them anymore; rather, he chose to simply leave the shop before causing a huge scene in front of his partner.
The corridors of the Onychinus headquarters were bustling with noise that bothered the white-haired man’s ears; whether it was the twins or Mephisto causing all that commotion hardly mattered to the man with scarlet eyes, who was attempting to focus on the contract sitting on his desk, however, the conversation he’d eavesdropped on at Jeremiah’s shop continued to linger in his mind despite his best efforts to forget what he’d overheard. After letting out a long sigh, the white-haired man turned his scarlet eyes towards the sunflowers in a canary-yellow vase, and even though the flowers and the vase didn’t match any of the dark furniture in the room, the white-haired man didn’t have the heart to throw them away - “Your study could benefit from a bit of life” - Those words Selene told him on the day she gifted him the vase with the artificial flowers echoed in his head. They weren’t even a couple back then, but the blonde still wanted to gift him something that would help him remember her while she was away working for the hunters’ association (well, at least that was what the white-haired man chose to believe, since after all, HIS SELENE always gave him those kinds of gifts to brighten up the base) letting out another sigh, Sylus forced himself to look back at the papers in front of him; later that night, he’d talk to his partner about the conversation he’d overheard.
Later that evening, the white-haired man was finishing up his shower, when he suddenly heard his bedroom door opening and the familiar sound of the blonde’s work boots approaching the bathroom. - If you were going to attempt to eliminate me, first you’d need to be more mindful of your steps, Moon —Sylus said while watching the blonde undress and opening the glass door separating them. The blonde simply rolled her eyes in response, but once she entered the shower, she embraced the white-haired man, pulling him close - I miss you - the blonde said, her voice slightly distorted from having buried her head in the white-haired man’s chest - I missed you too - the scarlet-eyed man replied, a pleasant warmth washing over him after planting a gentle kiss on his partner’s forehead when she pulled away from his chest - Sylus, we need to talk… - the blonde started to say, but was interrupted by a fiery kiss from the scarlet-eyed man, as he didn’t want to listen to such words coming from his Selene’s lips. Maybe it didn’t mean anything of what he was imagining, but he never wished to hear those words from the lips of his divine beloved ever again (and besides, the white-haired man needed the blonde to engrave in her mind the fact that only he could truly love her like this).
After a passionate encounter between the two, the white-haired man helped the blonde get dressed (miraculously resisting the urge to ask for a second round), and following his evening routine, the scarlet-eyed man turned off the bedroom lights to lie down in his bed. He would have continued with his evening routine had he not heard the blonde whisper his name - Sylus - the fearful voice of the woman with bluish-violet eyes made the white-haired man get up and sit on his bed - What’s the matter, Moon? - Sylus asked as he pulled Selene down next to him on the bed - How much of my conversation with Xav did you overhear? - The blonde’s words and serious tone made it clear to Sylus she would accept no less than the full truth. -Only that he cares deeply about your well-being - the scarlet-eyed one said as he looked at the stitches on his partner’s arms - Was that all? - Selene’s question was not random; that much the white-haired man understood. No matter how poor of a liar the woman with the bluish-violet eyes was, if there was anything she was skilled at, that was trusting her own intuition. - Something to do with a secret you’re hiding from me - Sylus said after planting a gentle kiss on the blonde’s forehead. With a sigh, she kissed him on the cheek before beginning to speak. - The man I was talking to today is my older brother, Xavier, and he was lecturing me for… - The bluish-violet woman kept speaking, but the white-haired man wasn’t listening to her anymore; his thoughts were fixated around one detail - Do you have more siblings? - The question slipped from the white-haired man’s lips before he was able to catch himself - I have only one older brother, his name is Xavier; he is the hunter who appears in those advertisements you despise so much, Selene said, accompanied by a hollow laugh - People find it really hard to believe that we're siblings when we're together; we've been told our whole lives that we're not related, because of our looks and our different personalities. That's how it's been for as long as I can remember…. Perhaps it could be quite different if it weren't for my curse - The blonde's words clearly revealed her resentment and frustration, and to a certain extent, Sylus could relate to her (after all, he'd seen and collected all the Hunters' Association ads featuring Selene, and it had never crossed his mind that the other blond guy next to her was her older brother), but what struck him even more was the mention of a curse on her, and he was going to ask the blond woman exactly what she meant when she started talking again - That’s exactly what I was going to tell you about today… ever since I can remember, I’ve been under a curse. Perhaps you’d want to know the details… yet all I’m able to tell right now is that if I’m close to the brink of death, some sort of thing could happen to me - Selene said, her words almost a whisper by the end. After all he’d been through, Sylus knew perfectly well what was tormenting the young woman; something similar had happened to him during his life as a dragon, leading to his death at the hands of his beloved sorceress. As much as he’d like to offer her his help with whatever was tormenting her, Sylus knew that Selene would reject his offer. If Sylus was being honest with his feelings, the one thing he truly hated about the situation was how the young woman's soul seemed to bear such a heavy burden, and it pained Sylus to see her refusing help (yet he would never say anything to her about this, knowing full well that she was unwilling to hurt herself). Letting out a weary sigh, Sylus gently kissed Selene’s lips and said the very next words - As long as I'm the first person who comes to the rescue when you're on the verge of death, that's enough for me — with those words (and kissing the blonde), Sylus made himself more comfortable on his bedside whilst pulling Selene towards his chest and wrapping his arms around her to help her fall sleep, but not before considering how he should present himself to Selene’s older brother to ensure he made a good first impression
(as well as making it crystal clear that his role was to keep Selene safe, rather than her brother’s).
Author note 2: since the last paragraph was to long I had to add the last line apart but is just Sylus closing thoughts on his jealousy and protective nature
