It was so comforting to have Patrick in front of him. He didnāt realise how unsettled he felt constant, not just gloomy. He wished they could have just stayed in that sweet and affectionate moment, but Zacharias got a terrible sense of foreboding as the man began to explain. When Pat had left him that night, he had been unable to think of anything else.
As he spoke, his expression slowly fell until his heart dropped into his stomach and he went pale.Ā āHeā¦. you died,ā he repeated slowly as he tried to process it. His mind had processed the information, but not his emotional in regards to these facts. First, he went through the worried and scared emotions at the fact that Patrick died, reaching up and cupping his cheeks with both of his hands.Ā āAt least you got to see a little bit of heaven,ā he replied softly, smiling for just a moment. Pat had come back and was alright, as far as he could tell.Ā
Before, he never would have gotten angry, but his own brush with death had changed him. Maybe he had absorbed some of the other negatives emotions people had that night, because now he was angry.Ā āNot only did he try to make you into a werewolf, he killed you in the process.ā His tone ended in an ever so slight growl, eyes darkening with his anger.Ā āNot only is that against the rules made to protect the slaves, I donāt think anyone said a thing. Iām sure Lovell would have tried to get a reaction out of me if heād known.ā Zac had started this job to help the slaves, and now he was being forced to accept what little he could actually do, more than he had already.Ā āI wonāt let anyone hurt you ever again.ā
Patrick would have preferred to stay in the moments where Zac was happy to see him and smiling. Instead, he knew the truth was going to ruin that glimmer of happiness. Patrickās expression sobered as he tried his best to explain it without going into the details of what happened, wanting to spare the nephilim of the gory way he died.Ā āI did, yes,ā he answered, trying not to linger too much on what had happened.Ā
He could see the flicker of emotions on the nephilimās face and quickly rested his hand on his hip, wanting to soothe his worries. Patrick was there now, even if he had died, he had seen a flicker of heaven and been given a purpose. Not being fearful of everything was a far better way to live than how he had been. When Zac cupped his cheeks, he lifted a hand to cup his hands.Ā āI did, that was beyond anything I could have expected.ā There was the downside that he had been tainted by Raphael and now he might never return to heaven.Ā
There was a sudden change in Zachariasās expression and it surprised Patrick. The nephilim had always been soft and caring and sweet, he had never seen him angry or aggressive in any way.Ā āIt probably doesnāt help, but I believe his intention was to turn me into a hellhound so I wouldnāt be able to step foot in a church again.ā As bitter as Patrick was about that little fact, it had backfired on the master. Not only was he not a werewolf, but even if he was a demon, he could still touch holy artefacts without being harmed. As his master was a council member and part of making the rules, he doubted he would get any backlash for what he had done.Ā āHe probably didnāt want to be caught out for screwing up.ā
The reaper knew it mustāve been difficult for Zacharias as he was in a position where he healed and helped slaves. He wouldnāt have been able to help him regardless but he knew that didnāt help anything.Ā āI wonāt let anyone hurt me again either. Iām not scared of dying anymore,ā he said softly. His hand moved to Zacās cheek, cupping it gently.Ā āIām not scared of how I feel anymore either. I know itās not wrong to want you.āĀ
