Robert Newton III, A Great Soul, A Master Teacher.
Words can not express what this man meant to me. He was an unknown legend from Columbia, South Carolina. He was my FIRST music teacher, a father figure, a spiritual teacher, a profound friend. He helped to build my lifeafter quitting baseball at 21 years old; a time when I struggled with deep depression and a loss of identity. He encouraged me, believed in me and brought me to life. He was the first person I had ever met that was an avid meditator. There was something about him that was so different from anyone I had ever come across; he emitted a genuine joy and enthusiasm for existence that was magnetic, inspirational and wonderful. We would stand on the sidewalk after a lesson on Friday evenings for hours talking about music, life, relationships, spirituality, and practice. Lessons that have become a part of me, changed me. He was a true, master teacher, the greatest teacher I have ever known. A true hero. In many ways and many aspects of my life, he was my greatest influence. His humanity was extraordinary, he was a Buddha-being if there ever was one. I am saddened that I have not seen Robert for a long time. For many years I wanted to go back to express my love for him. Unfortunately it never worked out. I pray every person has a friend this true in their life. It is the greatest of blessings, beings that appear in our life right at the time that we need them, to lift our hearts and open up our minds. I sing and practice for you now my friend. Rest in sweet musical peace my psycho-brother, I hear you shredding in the heavens. I think about your teachings daily, and learned so much from you. Most of all... how to love life, to love Love, and to live in the NOW. A place you emanated from with such TRUTH. Forever, eternally, the ever-present NOW. I see you there. Love, Love, Love ~ Chris
