Red camellias symbolize love, passion and desire. It shows that the other person sets your heart on fire.

Pink camellias symbolize heartfelt longing for someone. It is perfect for long-distance lovers.

In Japan the camellia flower is called “Tsubaki” and symbolizes the divine. It is often used in religious and sacred ceremonies. It also represents the coming of spring. Red camellias are also used to “honor” the death, and a “seemingly dead” Dazai on the picture along with red camellias just symbolize their bond as partners and Dazais wish to die. Chuuya is honoring his death with this. White roses may be true, but they are on different pages :P

So, it’s... partly correct, they definitely symbolize noble death (or a death wish if you will) but with this art specifically I think it’s meant in both ways.

Given that Chuuya has the corruption mark on his cheek and that he is an exec in the mafia, they can absolutely symbolize death for him. And Dazai generally wants to die, so there goes the obvious.

But they can still also represent love because one doesn’t necessarily exclude the other. In what way is up to interpretation, maybe love as a bond between partners or between lovers or whatever you can come up with.

This may seem obvious but it makes sense when you think about it. Especially the nostalgia part of the meaning... I can imagine that they miss each other ever since Dazai left the Port Mafia.

To sum it up, do with this information what you will. And yeah, this doesn’t necessarily make it canon but you can ship whatever you want and like!!
