as someone who's studying theater and film, "you're reading too much into this" is annoying tf out of me because the things pointed out are usually really easy to spot metaphors and subtext. Art is meant to be experienced, analyzed and interpreted. I would even say that it's the whole point.
that's the main reason why I really hate season 5 of stranger things... It opens the door for people to only view things on surface level, without giving it any thought, accepting things as they are with no criticisms and expectations. Even excusing poor writing with "they probably resolved these issues off screen". Why not show it then? I can't think of any character that hasn't acted out of character during this season. And the worst part is that when you point it out, people say "it's not that deep". EXCEPT IT IS. it really is and should be. I hate overexplaining the obvious, I hate "tell, don't show". I hate the direction this show went after s2.
St5 really dumbs down the audience and I'm afraid more shows are going to be made for people who cannot watch a show without a phone in hand.
