I got lots to say cause I'm sick of how people are acting about the confirmation of Harley being Black from Isacc's comment.
The tweet Isacc commented "Harley Sawyer!" under wished at least one character is confirmed as BIPOC, and when asked what's Harley's specific race, he replied he imagined Harley to be Black. The tweet Isacc commented under said at least one character to be confirmed, it's not asking for a full list of all characters races. I'm tired of the defaulting the rest of the characters must be White because of one confirmation of a character being BIPOC.
The Executives aren't implied White, and I'm guessing the "implied White"s come from the assumption they are from their demeanors, which is a big problem. Harley is Black deniers has tried doing just that to attempt to claim Harley has apparently always been implied White from him having his eloquent speech and ""doesn't act Black"", basically for not fitting the very specific box they put Black people in. See the problems there?
Harley wasn't the only one to be mistreated and to mistreat. Leith and Eddie plotted against Rich for his influence on the employees, Leith mistreats Sharon, Eddie threatened Silva. It's not like they were plotting against Harley at the start either, it was bound a punishment would be fulfilled no matter who the suspect behind the Theater Incident was, that left over 60 civilians killed and is a huge risk, it's just Harley is very valueble to just kill off.
In Incident Aftermath they're discussing what to do with the suspect when find out whose behind the incident, and Leith wants to kill the suspect by giving their neck a nice squeeze till they stop moving (dead) and after that, Gerad Lockehart reveals the one behind the Theater Incident is Harley Sawyer. After the revelation, Eddie's reason for wanting Harley knocked out of the equation is Harley having no regard for the safety of the facility and its staff. We even get Leith saying they still need Harley which is for his knowledge and intellect, but he's behind schedule and the Initiative is still a money hole. Stella's reason is for Harley having no regard for the orphans and not listening to her boundaries for it.
Now for another issue, calling Harley racist writing only because Harley is evil, is a dangerous thing in itself. It gives the narrative that Black people aren't also capable of being immoral and abusers too. Negative traits get seen as an individual with no regard for their race if a White person has it, but if a BIPOC does it then they'll have to defend their whole race? It's a backwards way of thinking, too, like those who reacted about the confirmation with "so that's why Harley is bad?". But gen, why so quick to bring up Harley being immoral as if the Executives aren't also immoral?
Harley Sawyer is a good written character. We have a severe lack of important Black Characters in general. We think it's good rep for one of the two Black Characters in this franchise that isn't just the kid in the Doey Commercial to be an extremely cunning highly intelligent neurosurgeon who's relevant and important to the narrative. There's even PPT fans who are Black who been wanting Harley to be Black since 2024.
"B-but things can change during development, they should confirm it in game otherwise I'll continue depicting Harley as White!" It feels this for them is an excuse because they know there's a decent chance the team will never confirm in game. Not believing its canon unless canon explicitly proves it in order to believe the character is BIPOC in canon can end up part of the White is Default mindset. Harley debuted in Project Playtime, and Chapter 3, which Isacc the creator of PPT directed before leaving the franchise, and his OC is Harley Sawyer. Personally, I don't see why they'd change Harley's race now. For a less present issue but needing to be said for my sanity. If Isacc's ex-director status makes his comment Harley is Black not matter, then quit huddling on any one of the two age comments he left. Those comments don't matter then too. I wonder, why does that only for many apply to Harley being Black, although not the Age Discourse comments he left that's been contradicted many times by the team.
There's so much I could go over, and we hate the "implied white people ganging up on a black person" another reason is we seen follow ups are to call him their slave... or "dont make him black or else he'll be ugly" which actually did still happened a lot even before the confirmation, or "he doesn't have '"black voice"". There's numerous Black people who had been telling Non-Black people they're not right and think otherwise, but it usually goes to dismissing and blocking them. Listen to them, especially if you're not Black yourself. When trying to celebrate the happiness for the news the beloved character is Black, you get dumbasses trying to tear that down.
