The screams seemed to deafen her, even though they were coming from behind the old metal door that led to the main room where all the fun was waiting. Thalia was fully aware of what she was getting into when she confirmed her presence to Max, the guy from the fight, who called her for another round that night, a rematch against Kitty, the wretch she lost last month.
She wrapped the bandages around her knuckles and up to her wrist so she wouldn't give up or break them when she punched her rival in the face. Maybe she was exaggerating, she knew that last month she was going through financial difficulties and losing made her even more angry, but Kitty loved to always rub her victories in the face of the short-haired brunette, knowing that her strong temper would show in the middle of the fight.
The door opened, letting the noise grow louder in the abandoned room. Thalia saw Max, nodding her head that it was her turn, the penultimate fight of the night. The five-foot-five-inch brunette got up from the old bench and headed towards the sea of euphoria.
She had been in that world for a year and a half. Even though she had learned to like that environment, the cheering for her victory, the adrenaline that calmed her from her stressful and worrying day-to-day life, that world was only for one goal and that alone.
"Ladies and gentlemen, now with you, our second star of the night, one of the few women in the purple cage, the great Furiosa!" introduced the fake announcer, one of the people in charge of the fighting house.
Thália kept a serious expression as she entered the made-up cage in the middle of the large room, moving her tense neck observing her opponent who was five centimeters taller, with blond hair braided in two, dressed in pink pants, top and sneakers. A very attractive woman in the eyes of many, especially the audience who praised her with all the best names.
Unlike Kitty, known for her beauty, Thalia was known for her lack of patience and ferocity in every battle, considered a first-class "Mario macho" for her aggressive posture, with baggy pants and tank top.
The factory whistle blew, signaling the start of the fight. There was no greeting between the opponents, but rather the beginning of a series of punches and cheers while high bets were made.
Not far from that place, hidden in the shadows outside the factory, three ticket collectors were studying what was happening. The leader remained standing in the center, watching the fierce fight of whoever it was. April had warned him of her suspicions, and according to his instincts, he felt that this place was more dangerous than it appeared.
The technology genius watched the right side, quickly typing the keys and communicating to Case Jones, a friend and ally in that operation, about who and what the people he had managed to detect were inside.
On the left side, the youngest of the brothers, even in his naive daydreams, remained alert in case of danger and escape.
The most hostile one remained hidden in the shadows at the back of the factory, a safe and extensive place in case something went wrong.
"Let's start the operation, call Case to invade the complex, if someone known to the Foot Clan is up to something, we'll go in, and don't forget, don't be seen," informed Leonardo, the leader.
After Donatello confirmed with Case, the police officer leading the operation in the neighborhood, 2 minutes later the police sirens were heard inside the factory.
Thalia was throwing punches in succession towards her opponent who skillfully dodged and landed two punches on the brunette's face. She couldn't let Kitty get another victory, she needed the money from that night. The short-haired brunette swallowed her saliva with a metallic taste as she advanced for another attack.
"The police are coming!" Someone in the middle of the crowd shouted.
In a few seconds people were running from one side to the other as if they had thrown water on an anthill.
Panic covered the brunette's face who stopped advancing against her opponent due to the commotion, she wanted to smash the blonde's face who was watching the panic behind the improvised ring.
"Shit!" Said the blonde running for the door. "Shit.. SHIT! GET ME OUT OF HERE" she screamed furiously when she noticed that they hadn't unlocked the improvised cage.
It was the certainty that only one winner would emerge conscious from the fight and that would be the ruin of both of them.
She would have to think fast, she couldn't get caught, she couldn't get arrested!
Thalia didn't think twice about looking at the top of the Cage, she ran from one side to the other until she saw the poorly fitted part of that junkyard. She gained momentum and hung onto the large 2.5 meter fence, pushing as hard as she could.
She couldn't tell if it was luck or simply destiny that the fence lifted just enough to get through, she hadn't hurt herself other than the bruises from the fight.
The police were already arresting some people inside the building when the girl fell to the ground on her side, she didn't have time to think or catch her breath when a man with blond hair that was almost shaved appeared in front of her holding a gun in her direction.
"Freeze, you're pre…"
Thalia didn't think twice when one of the fugitives bumped into the blond while trying to escape from another police officer. She got up quickly and ran to the door where she was waiting for the fight to start while the police officer was still recovering from the fall and got up to capture her.
She quickly closed the door, mentally cursing herself for being at the factory that particular day. It seemed like bad luck was following her. She had never heard of a break-in in that area, even though it was considered one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in New York, the police didn't usually carry out operations there.
She grabbed her backpack with her phone and clothes she had changed into when she arrived. The door was opened abruptly, revealing the blond police officer. Once again, the girl found herself on the run, running between the doors in that place.
It took her 5 minutes to reach the back door, strategically using rooms that would confuse the police officer. It wasn't the first time she had entered the factory and she wasn't stupid enough not to know the place before getting involved in an underground fight.
"Fuck…" She cursed.
She stopped outside, breathing deeply and catching her breath. She was in the factory yard where there were containers with looted contents.
Adjusting her backpack on her back, the brunette started running towards the concrete wall that led to the other street. She would go home after that madness, staying as far away as possible for a while from Max or anyone she knew from the purple cage.
With each movement she made, she was watched by yellow eyes, hidden in the darkness. He thought that perhaps more people could appear, but only a small boy had escaped, thought the mutant with the red headband.
In an attempt, Thalia gained momentum in a small run to climb the wall.
She failed…
A piece of iron almost hit her hand when she was going to reach the top of the wall, so sharp that it stuck one of the four points in the concrete wall.
Scared, she fell on her butt.
"What the hell was that?…"
"Stop right there" sounded the male voice.
Standing up and looking back, she saw the same blond police officer holding his gun in her direction.
"Move away from the wall, raise your hands where I can see them," he ordered.
Thalia had no other option but to obey at that moment. She raised her hands until her fingers were a little past her ear, slowly approaching.
What should she do? She had to think fast, she couldn't get caught.
It was dark, she knew she would barely be able to see her face, just as she couldn't identify her face, she could be mistaken as everyone else did for a boy by her height, clothes and haircut. She had to be quick for that.
Thalia got as close to him as possible. The tall blonde grabbed her right hand so he could put her behind her back and handcuff her, when the brunette used her left hand to hit the police officer's wrist hard, making him drop his gun, kicked it away and hit the officer in the nose with a headbutt.
That moment was her only chance to escape, he had taken two steps back by reflex and was gone.
Thalia used the two steps as momentum to jump and hit the police officer in the head with her elbow, knocking him off his feet.
She couldn't waste any more time; she had to leave as soon as a police officer arrived. She ran to the wall, using the momentum from her run and her steps on the bricks to reach the top and climb up.
For a moment, she let herself look back and see how the police officer was doing. But instead, something caught her attention.
There was a large shadow near the containers, near the police officer, you couldn't see the shape.
But the eyes, bright yellow that made Thalia's spine shiver. She had never seen those eyes of a different color.
"Hey!" the police officer shouted, trying to get up.
Thalia didn't wait any longer to find out who the yellow-eyed man was or if the police officer was still going to chase her. She jumped over the wall and ran as fast as she could, taking the star-shaped iron with her.
"Can't we go after him?" the blond asked.
"I can't be seen, genius," grumbled the big guy, still hidden in the shadows. A mocking smile appeared on his face, "seriously Case, did you lose to a brat that big?"
"Oh… Shut up, Raphael," he grumbled, going after his gun.
