Artwork Updates! 

As EU regulations change Natco have to make sue they stay up to date with this therefore now they need to have 7 languages on their packaging instead of 5. 

 I got the change to problem solve working out how to fit all seven languages as well as having all the Nutritional information in all 7 languages and working out how that would all fit. I made a new Nutritional Information box which could be changed and fit onto the packaging. 

Zig Zinglar 

I got the opportunity to create Natco’s Diwali Promotions Poster which was advertised on their facebook page for their Natco store in Leicester which is incredibly popular with customers. I was given a day to this and felt pressured however managed to get through it and create a successful design. 

I’ve settled into my placement really well and everyones really nice and friendly. I got the chance to get stuck in straight away and picked up alot of things really quickly such as their unique product codes and filing systems. 

Makerm and Ice are softwares which we upload BMP files to containing the labels for different products which production open up on their machines and print straight onto the films in large numbers. 

Deadlines for the next two weeks are: 

- Going through product lists and uploading. 

- Updating artwork once technical have approved. 

As my boss is away the next week I have been given a list of jobs to do

- Take product photos for Natco.

- Upload a new list of Makem & Ice.

- Upload product images and descriptions onto Natco Website.

Summers over and I begin my placement today and I can honestly say I’m nervous but excited! I’ve worked so hard for this placement and i’m excited for what this year will bring. I’m going to be working at Natco Foods as a Graphic Design Trainee for 12 months.  (SEPT 2017 - AUG 2018) 

 On my first day I got shown around along with some inductions as well as learning about their artwork upload softwares called Markem & Ice, which i’ll talk about more in detail over due course. 

After a few group meetings, I thought it would be best to get my group together and reflect on what we’ve done, as a group we came up with a few aspects we should look into more detail.

I’m a big fan of packaging and I thought i’d have a look on Pinterest to see what I could find! As some of these designs would help with my extra work which I want to do, so I can add to my portfolio.

This just made me think of all the times while doing this project I had seen bad typography, weather it be when research or visiting places even simply observing places and things around me..

I really like the red and white, also the way its been over lapped with two completely different typefaces and two different messages to this design! as its hard to get your point across in design and you don’t want to confuse your audience. 

Opinions...

Due to different people having different opinions there will always be good and bad typography everywhere, as one person might think a design is good practise of good typography whereas the other might not..

Magnet Designs!

So we’re coming to an end to our Integrated design project (1) and Its been a crazy learning experience specially working in a group, however its been really nice as we all got to know people on our course much better! and reviewed everyones strengths and weaknesses.. 

Boss?!

Everyone in my groups would definitely say i was in the “boss” in the group and made sure we all got work done but hey! someone needs to be like that and push the group. I’m just glad we all managed to get designs done and communicate well with each other through the likes of social media.

My Strengths and Weaknesses....

My strengths in my group were definitely being organised and keeping everyone up to date as well as having good sketchbook research which was on going and giving my group ideas to bounce off. I really enjoyed helping out with the leaflet, magnet, presentation and design house designs as I got to try different design concepts in a variety of design softwares. 

My weaknesses in my group was not always having screenshots of development work or not always putting my ideas across in the group and choosing other peoples ideas.

How to solve my weaknesses? 

Practice makes perfect?!

So here I decided to practice each letter over and over again to get it perfect! for my typography module before I put my letters into words and a panagram! 

I found this pretty hard however I used the information I learnt from my “Using grid” lecture to help me get my letters right along with cm measurements too.

2.5cm gap between some letters as well as having an appropriate width and depth to the letters. 

Whats next?

well i’ve really enjoyed this aspect of my development work even though it did take a long time however now I’ll redraw them into a panagram as well as tracing them twice to see the changes I have made.

Screen Printing 

On monday we had a screen print workshop, where we got the chance to screen print our postcard designs and get a feel of how to use the screen print machine and the process. 

Me and my group really enjoyed it and actually being hands on! we made a few mistakes, for instant getting the colours wrong... however it was still a good experience and a learning curve. 

Also when we used different medians to create our separations, it moved the design therefore it was over-lapping and not in line.
