It was exciting to see people bring so many interesting analog cameras! These are taken on Lomography colour film, and are mainly people-watching snaps. One of the first very hot days of the season, this was a chance for me to get closer to subjects who were making the most of the sun and water.

The banders I met are super knowledgeable about bird species and migration, and many have devoted years of their life to banding. People travel from all over the world to participate in bird banding seasons, and the birds that are recorded travel across borders too. It was a pleasure getting to observe bird banding and an honour to share in the expertise of the people who keep this practice going.

Sea & rocks, Peru 2024.

Analog snaps from a boat ride along Callao, Peru, which I took with my father in November, 2024. My dad is from the area, and pointed out spots during the trip: where he used to live, what used to be something else, where certain parties and events took place. It was a smooth ride, with the captain taking a moment to explain a bit of the area's history. In the distance, we could see some islands -- further tourist desinations and a former jail. After this, we took a taxi to La Punta, and I ate an entire fish steamed in broth.

After going home, I had many recurring dreams about waves: I dreamt about big waves coming toward a city, about waterfall cliffs, about swimming under waves and watching them crash above me. The region was later hit by abnormally large waves, which caused damage to the fishing boats I had photographed just a month or so before the incident.

Petting zoo wholesomeness in Milton, Ont. My friends and I made a mini expedition to Andrew's Scenic Acres to observe the pumpkins, possibly pick apples, and look at the farmer's market. But the petting zoo was the real main attraction, especially the turkeys. When up close, their coos sound very soothing but also strange, they seem like little aliens, reminders of the dinosaurs.

Winter into spring, inside goes to outside. To reflect time and its slow or quick passage, I continue my experiments in infrared photography. Self portraits serve as an accessible way to express emotion. Shots of winter and its grey tones stands out from to the harsh contrast of bright sunlight. Movement and stillness produce different results. 1) the street during snowfall 2) collection of footprints I follow to the store 3) waiting, in bed 4) pausing as I dress 5) my sister in warm weather, looking away 6) me standing in the sun, swaying

Some analog snaps in Kodak Gold during a forest walk in North Bay, Ontario. Being alone in nature and allowing the scenery to compell me to take a photograph is one of my favourite passtimes. Pictures include a timer selfie from the woods, taken while hoping no hikers would walk by.

Experiments in infrared film outdoors. I tried out Rollei infrared 35mm film with an infrared filter on my Canon FT QL. I metred for light and then stopped down about 8-10 stops, and got some mixed results. On certain shots, the focus was not correct, since you can't see through the viewfinder with the infrared filter on, and the filter changes the effect of light and range of focus. For landscapes and longer shots with infinity focus, the results were more interesting and they had that strange, eerie infrared look.

I made this short, one-minute film, Obsessed with Birds (2020) as part of my coursework for Humber College's Creative Photography diploma. I'm quite proud of it. Watch and enjoy!
