Princess and the Player by Ilsa Madden-Mills My rating: 3 of 5 stars Quick(ish) Review This is a tried and true trope - the ONS that leads to a surprise pregnancy. And if that is your jam and jelly, you may enjoy this. For me, it was a mixed bag and I’ll tell you for why. First the good - I liked the found family for Francesca. I think their initial ONS setup was good. I think there’s some good character development, especially delving into each of their childhood traumas, they just needed a little more showing rather than telling. Ultimately, this is an exploration of fate vs coincidence and I didn’t quite buy into all the coincidences. Look, I’m willing to suspend disbelief that a person could get kidnapped by aliens and end up on another planet, but believe that a single woman who lives paycheck to paycheck could end up living in the same building as a billionaire? In NYC? Yeah, not happening. And there’s so many little moments like this that require this suspension of disbelief to make it work. I might have let it go, but I wasn’t quite buying into the chemistry for most of the story and the lie that stood between them dragged on with a third act resolution that was…fine. I guess bottom line, if you’re swept up in the trope and the soapy-ness of it, this could work for you. View all my reviews
