People often like to say the phrase, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade."

Yet, life never gave us lemons. We made lemons; lemons are a hybrid of citrus and bitter oranges.

The irony of this phrase is obvious. Similarly, people like to call poetry a "gift to humanity," but life never gave us poetry. We created it.

I feel like they're connected through some strange irony. Both can be sweet, sour, bitter, beautiful, and strange.
