Think Extravagantly

In a lot of evangelical churches, you can dress casually and have a pretty informal worship style, so long as you hate gay people sufficiently and in the right way.

But the general level of dress scares away a lot of college students, who slide in at 11:30 where all their friends go in jeans and a T-shirt and a hundred others like them. They feel accepted on the surface. But the college kids who get reeled in to the cool, casual churches have to repress themselves or end up in ex-gay therapy if they want to stay. The women realize they can never so much as lead morning prayer, or they have to lose weight to sing on the praise band. Can’t tell anyone you didn’t vote for Trump, or you might as well hate God. Many people would lose their social support system if they admitted to being pro-choice or having sex before marriage. That’s okay, all their friends are there…and would be so disappointed in them for leaving…the college minister would be so upset if they left.

Viola, suddenly you’ve manipulated and trapped a lot of young adults.

so they can pat themselves on the back and say “yeah we might have rigid and draconian theological/moral beliefs…but we’re not concerned with literal appearances, so we’re totally not like the pharisees or anything”

when your crush says they’re thirsty…
