The project known as Plastic Handgun definitely creates a feeling, if listened to all the way through, that one long déjà vu is unfolding like a path in front of the listener, and he or she only need take the first step to experience it. Like Tangerine Dream and Philip Glass before him, Di Giovanni as Plastic Handgun has created a body of work in Involuntary Memories which is half music, half REM sleep, and all sonic travel.

The tracks on Involuntary Memories are densely layered with variations of the same underlying complex textures. Its themes are remarkably similar to the leitmotifs attributed to Richard Wagner; although, of course, the results are totally dissimilar in sound and genre. But the concept is the same, and the benefits, musically speaking, are wonderfully chromatic, producing tonal colors that flow dramatically well.

The overall sound of the album is remarkable for the work of one individual; it’s scope alone could be chalked up to entire studio of session musicians. Involuntary Memories is certainly one memorizing and engaging listen from a voice deserving to be heard.
