I know this isn't my usual stuff but I want to talk about my dad.
My dad was born hard of hearing and eventually stopped wearing his hearing aids before I was born, so both of my parents were deaf. My mother is a terrible terrible person but that's a different story. My whole life my dad was the one to show me kindness and compassion and how to treat people. I remember the day he gave me money to give to the homeless man outside of cvs. He would always over tip delivery drivers, he tipped one guy 20 dollars (in the 90s lol so it was a lot) just because it was raining.
He was a hippy, he smoked weed for as long as I can remember, I always thought it was skunks under the house lol. He always said "stay easy" whenever saying goodbye, I never knew where he got it from.
He was smart. He went to Brown. He was a engineer for the navy, building submarines. I always thought he was the coolest person in the world.
He may have made good money but we grew up in a small trailer. He had some issues, he was paranoid that he was being followed all of the time. But he never took anything out on me. If he was ever mad I would just smile at him and he'd start laughing, he could never be mad at me.
He loved nature and anything spiritual, crystals and the stars. He believed dreams could show the future. He always showed me how to slow down. How to appreciate what I have.
I could never talk bad about anyone to him, he'd always remind me that everyone has their own issues and I might not know their struggles.
He loved cats so much, we had 5 and they were his babies.
He was weird and funny and truly shaped me into the person I am today.
He was gentle and kind and always made people feel welcome.
I could talk about him forever. He was the best person I've ever met. The best dad, the best grandpa.
I only hope that I could be half as good a person as him.
I've never missed anyone this much.
His love lives on in art, in plants, in all the animals he loved. The squirrel outside my window, the ladybug in my house. All of the good in the world that I can see because of him. On the stormy days, he loved the sky. A chilly autumn morning, or a rainy freezing night. He is with me in every moment of peace and every moment of sadness.
