was talking about this in watchcord but with how long i've been in mcyt fandom there's a very distinct phenomenon where newer ccs tend to fall into the twitter fandom's parasocial culture and encourage it, often due to naivety, while ones who stick around and have been here for 5+ years will end up hard diverging from that culture eventually because of how toxic it is
veteran ccs tend to liken their job to that of an actor's from what i've seen, while younger ccs almost present themselves as another fan, an equal to their audience, which enables parasociality
ranboo is my most obvious case study there, but i think the remaining smplive guys are also a pretty good one since that server birthed the whole "boundary" culture and their current content and fandom would kill a smptwt stan
i genuinely think a lot of the fans that engage in this behavior don't realize that "i am not your friend" is directed at them
yeah this is exactly what i'm talking about. there is no relationship here. you, as a cc, do not know your fans
and once again, "do not ever think or do or write this thing" is not a boundary. objectively. a boundary is "please don't talk to me about this" in an interpersonal relationship.
parasocial nonsense aside: as a grown adult you are 100% capable of not looking at something. it's not hard. it is in no way part of your job to make sure people aren't writing Bad Fanfiction about you.
i really need content creators to understand that enabling parasocial behavior like this is how you get people hurt.
by framing you and your viewers as having some kind of interpersonal relationship in which there is implicit trust that can be damaged, you are inherently encouraging an unhealthy parasocial dynamic. you are telling your audience "i am your friend, and you must treat me as such, and if you go against this, i will be disappointed in you".
and while you may not have malicious intent, there are some very high profile examples of cases where creators did and used this as a tool for harm. don't normalize it.

They live in the SEZ and are in a profession known as pickers/pipers/scrounges who go out in the Wreck and collect stuff to sell on their own, not on behalf of an agency. They’re kind of the same as dredgers except with no gov/sponsor funding and a lot more danger in exchange for a bit more freedom and all the profit from your catch.
I’d say it’s a pretty close WH equivalent to their wof job of “guys who sell trinkets and crafts on the side of the road”.

Disabled people belong in the environmental sciences. Disabled people can and should be ecologists, zoologists, biologist, botanists, etc. There are ways to accommodate your disabilities. There are ways to do field work while disabled. It is good for the planet to have disabled people in environmental science, as their lived experiences create unique lenses to experience and analyze problems through. Disabled people are also disproportionately impacted by environmental changes. By studying and fighting for our planet, we are fighting for the other members of our community.
