Chapter 1
“The door is just up ahead!” Bailey called over their shoulder, their legs carrying them faster than the rest of you through the dim hallways.
That strange person on the motorcycle had given the group directions to escape and a place where you would be safe. You didn’t recognize them, you couldn’t if you tried. They had a helmet on and you could only see wisps of grayish teal hair from underneath. They had let you all out of the room you were held in and drove off. They hadn’t spoken a word. Only gave you a piece of paper with a map and you showed a flower.
You and Bailey were older than the rest of the dozen that were captured with you. The rest of the group was primarily older teens and a few younger. No one knew their exact age or birthday for that matter. The Aliens deprived you of that information.
The door Bailey spoke of came into view. They leaned into it with their shoulder and yelped as the door automatically opened. They stumbled and hit the ground. A few of the younger teens snarked and you helped Bailey to their feet.
“Careful. We don’t know anything about this world..” You remind them as they dust their clothes off, face flushed with embarrassment.
“I know y/n. Thanks.” They ran after the rest of the group without another glance at the building they had lived in for so many years.
You didn’t look back either as you ran. You fucking hated those sterile walls with fake paintings of Earth and plastic plants. There was no use in being sentimental over a place that had no value but a place that you resided in. Your bare feet thumped on the pavement as you ran with the rest of the group through the bright, colorful streets of the alien world. The building towered above you, lights flashed, and strange sounds blared.
You did single out one sound from the rest however.
A shriek rang out in a language you recognized as one that the aliens used. The people at the front of the group came to a quick stop and you nearly crashed into them. The alien you had heard was panicking at the sight of the humans, and was babbling in their foreign language. The scene drew the attention of other aliens on the street. It was very quickly turning into a threatening situation as Aliens yelled and waved their limbs and you.
BANG! BANG!
An alien dropped, blood spraying the streets.
Chaos ensued.
Aliens ran, screaming in a weird distorted way that you would expect from extraterrestrials.
A human man leaped out of the shadows of an alley pointing a gun at any alien that hadn’t already been scared off. The rest quickly scampered away, throwing obvious choice words from their language over their shoulder at the man. He has shoulder length bleached blonde hair, his brown shoots showing. He wore mostly black and had a mask covering his face. “This way!” He shouted at the group as he swiftly ducked into an alley.
The journey was stressful, always looking over your shoulder, climbing over and crawling under fences, and the teens made it harder with their constant gripping. The man led you all through a tunnel and you were sure you would be ambushed in that dark cavern. However you emerged unscathed into the sunlight -or otherstarsimilartothesunonthisplanet light. The rest of the trek was relatively easy, you entered an area with evenly spaced buildings, and the man took the group inside one. You were greeted by a surprising number (meaning around ten) of humans of different ages. Most seemed to be you and Bailey’s age while the rest were children too young to be left alone.
“Holy shit,, what is this place?” Bailey mumbled, looking around in awe. You weren’t really sure what there was to ogle at. The building was pretty plain, only a few tables, chairs and crates with rations and supplies. It was exciting to see other people, however. You only ever knew the group you grew up with…well you were moved from a different group along with Bailey but that’s a piece of lore for another day.
The man that had led you all here took a deep breath before dramatically saying, “Welcome to the rebellion!” His announcement was met with a single whoop one of the members observing but other than that it was awkward silence. “Uhh,, heh. You’re free! You don’t have to perform for the Segyein anymore! Yaayyyy!” The man clapped, trying to get a rise out of the group.
A few teens clapped along hesitantly, not understanding what it really meant to be free.
“Okay I suppose I should introduce everyone.” The man rubbed the stumble on chin, searching for a good transition to alleviate the awkwardness. “I’m Dewey, I’m kind of the one that knows the area. I’ve got street smarts,, if you will.” He padded towards a woman with long brown hair who was surveying the group of newcomers with her arms crossed. “This is Hyuna.”
“Hey. I’m the leader of the rebellion. We’ll get you guys settled in just a bit. It’s always good to have more people in our ranks.” Hyuna spoke, her voice collected and commanding.
“This is Till.” Dewey gestured to a man wearing that same bike suit as the stranger earlier. He had a grayish slightly grown out buzz, and scars visible on his neck from under his turtleneck. “He was the one that broke you guys out of the facility!”
Till acknowledged the group with a nod before going back to assisting one of the children throwing a fit.
Dewey looked around before addressing Hyuna, “Are Jacob and Isaac around?”
“No, they're caught up with a different group that was attacked by the Segyein.” Hyuna responds.
“Oh shit! Do they need help?”
“I’m sure they can hold their own. We’ve got enough to deal with here anyways.”
“...Alright,” Dewey turned back to the group. “Any questions?”
Bailey spoke up, “Yeah, what the fuck does the rebellion even do?”
“We’re trying to stop the exploitation of humans that the Segyein use to entertain themselves.” Hyuna answers.
“What are the Segyein?” You ask.
Dewey responded this time, “The Segyein are the aliens that were holding you captive. They could be very dangerous if they find our refuge here.”
“We’re working on breaking out those who are captured-”
“-And finding missing people.” Till interrupted Hyuna. It was obvious whoever was missing was a touchy subject and the members of the rebellion took an unspoken moment of silence.
After that grim moment, Hyuna broke the silence with a forced bright tone, “Okay! I’m sure you all would like to see where you'll be staying, yeah?”
…
“Dewey, show them their sleeping quarters.”
