The death toll from this year's floods in Assam has risen to 89 after two more people died in the worst-hit Sivasagar district, while over 1.28 lakh people across ten districts continue to remain affected, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

The ASDMA said both the latest fatalities were reported from Sivasagar, which remains the worst-affected district. The ten flood-hit districts are Sivasagar, Dhemaji, Golaghat, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Nagaon, Charaideo, Karbi Anglong,Hojai, Kamrup (Metropolitan), where 365 villages and over 15,342 hectares of cropland remain inundated.

Authorities are operating 39 relief camps, sheltering 12,382 displaced persons, while another 16 relief distribution centres are providing assistance to affected residents.

Apart from riverine flooding, urban flooding has also affected one district and three revenue circles, impacting around 7,000 people.
