Episode 9 Spoilers!!
I’m sorry but I actually find it wild that a large point of episode 9 was that Jax, despite being a heavily flawed person who has unfairly mistreated those around her, was a deeply traumatized and hurt person who had experienced emotional parental abuse and homelessness. A lot of her behavior was a genuine trauma response because she was TERRIFIED of being put into a position where she was shunned for her identity again and lose her safe space. And a big message of episode 9 was that despite the fact that Jax didn’t handle her trauma in the greatest or healthiest way, she was STILL deserving of Pomni and the others compassion and understanding. She was still worthy of love.
But then Jax Antis saw this and their takeaway was:
“WOW JAX IS SUCH A IRREDEEMABLE MONSTER I’M SO GLAD HE DIED!”
Like holy fucking shit you people cannot empathize with victims of trauma that aren’t the clean poster child “perfect victim” to save your lives.
I was calling this shit out as early as episode 8 and I was hoping episode 9 would get these people to back off, but I guess that was too naive of me :/
Some of the spoiler free HCS for Transfem Jax!!
She loveeesss dresses and frilly things along with more grungy looks- Once she's finally comfortable in her body, she can express herself as soft or as intense- whichever she likes!
I feel like she'd go by either Jackie, Jazzie, or just Jaz- Jackie being short for Jacqueline!
I like to think her, pomni, and ragatha are in a polycule :3c they deffo help her with all the girly stuff she needs!
In my brain, she had opened up to the girls, esp pomni, she would slowly become more and more comfy with herself to the point where she's a soft, nice lady, whos had therapy (well, the best the circus can provide)
Another thing in my brain- After she's more healed, I feel like she would make amends with Zooble and Gangle, esp Gangle bc she was so tortured lol
The girls LOVE to pamper and love on Jackie! She only lets this happen in private tho.
I feel like she still would sometimes use jokes to deflect, but Rags and Pom call her out on it to help her get around it :)
She would be a little chunkier methinks! Being able to be in a safe, happy relationship can add happy weight!
She still has her ears and tail (ofc) , but they're brushed out, fluffy, and one ear is floppy, while the other is up to keep the bow in place!
Ragatha gave up her bow to go to Jackie, on her right ear!
Gangle helps with curling and styling her hair- her ribbons help a lot with this I think!
Zooble and pomni helped teach her about makeup, but Zooble especially bc I think they would deffo be alt!!
Heard “Isn’t she lovely” in the wild and genuinely whipped my head around and shed a single tear
Can't believe I'm seeing people actually say that because Gooseworx wrote a character who perpetuates a stereotype that trans women are misogynistic...that she must be an internalized transphobe...and a misogynist.
Like, bro. You are literally admitting that trans women can indeed be misogynistic by making that accusation at all. I'm sorry to break it to you but we're not all perfect little beans. Before I came out, I was DEEPLY misogynistic. I'm willing to bet Goose was too. She's just trying to explore that topic because it's a real thing that happens. Of course it's not EXCUSABLE, but that's exactly why I've since moved on and learned from that time in my life.
This is just a bad take being repeated over and over by insecure chronically online teenagers who think that harassing fiction writers for writing the wrong fiction is how to make change in the world.
Probably gonna delete this post later, I don't know. Just really pissed off right now.

jax is fictional, she lives in your depictions of her
even if we agree with the take that abstraction is death (from the hints they dropped, i actually very much believe it's intended for us to take the interpretation that abstracted members of the circus *can* indeed come back, when they're ready), that doesn't have to be her end
when you depict her happy, she is happy
she lives in your art
so if you want her to be happy, all you have to do is depict her happy
Look at this stupid rabbit

Just Jax-yapping for a minute
Okay so as someone who's been saying Jax is trans from DAY ONE and trans fem for like a year, I want a medal. I love this asshole so much y'all have no idea. (Jax-posting disclaimer, yes I know she's a bad person. Yes her actions aren't excusable. blah blah.) Michael Kovach's voice acting was INSANE this episode. Jax genuinely could have lead such an amazing life AND SHE WAS THE ONLY ONE STANDING IN HER WAY. Oh my beautiful self fulfilling prophecy <3 She's also probably some of the BEST trans rep I've seen in a hot minute, but I'm saying that from a very biased perspective. In my own writing, I like to show the horror and darkness in my own struggles, most relating to mental illness or being queer. How experiencing the external judgement and internal self-hatred can morph you into something you never would have been otherwise. Sometimes being queer/mentally ill just makes you a bad or cruel person. Sometimes it makes you insanely angry and unreasonable and BITTER. The problem is, in my mind, this is the prime example of "art disturbs the comforted and comforts the disturbed." Someone who has experienced these things is going to see themselves in these characters/stories and feel recognized. But anyone who hasn't been mentally ill or queer could easily use that kind of media as basis for furthering internal biases. Now obviously, writers aren't responsible for how every individual interprets their work, but if you're aware you're writing about minorities or marginalized groups, you need to be aware people already hate these groups. Any representation that isn't "The perfect victim" (Kind, easy to swallow, subtle queer person. Pitiful, makes you grateful YOU aren't mentally ill, sad mentally ill person.) will be fuel for hate. What I'm getting at is writing about how things like mental illness, gender, and sexuality effect your mental state past, "Aw man, I'm sad my friends don't like that I'm gay :/" is HARD. And it's scary to put out into the world, because you KNOW it's going to be misunderstood and martyred. Gooseworx thank you for being brave. It actually made a really huge difference in my life. People don't talk about this stuff irl, or at least, people in my life don't. It just feels really good to see a character on screen and know the person writing them GETS it.
ANYWAY BACK TO JAX. I really do think the root of Jax's asshole-ery comes from being trans. Obviously not in a "TRANS PEOPLE ARE EVIL" way. I mean it in the sense that the external and internal biases people have towards things considered outside of the norm DO affect you. Don't give me any "Sticks and stones may break my bones" bs, words fucking hurt. And when words don't, actions do. Jax's mother laughing at her coming out will OBVIOUSLY affect her. Everything Jax did, to the moment before she died, was to repress who she really was and protect herself from who she was. As sad and scary as it is, for a lot of trans people, the idea of living repressed and isolated is a lot less scary than living openly and STILL being constantly ridiculed, oppressed, and shunned. It's really a thing of control. Even if Jax didn't have a choice in being trans, she did have a control over which painful option she preferred. Jax ILYSM.

so. watched I Saw The TV Glow for the first time yesterday.
have people on TikTok never seen an awful woman before?
have they never heard of a woman being abusive to other women physically?
do they think it's only verbal abuse?
does verbal abuse even count to them if it isn't said by incels and rednecks.
They must think being a woman today means you're a sprinkle of love with a hint something mystical.
that a woman has never even dreamed of bringing down another due to something as petty as jealousy.
that a woman is too kind to physically hurt someone over something as vain as envy.
that a woman would never torment a fellow woman she views as weaker than her to feel a sense of control.
that a woman couldn't possibly hate other women only because they find a way to be happy and take comfort in each other in a way she thinks she can't.
that no woman would say downright vile or homophobic things to someone to get attention even if it's negative just so she can perpetuate a role she thinks she should be playing in her head.
that a woman is too good to hurt someone that cares about her because she regrets talking negatively about her mom to that person. That she let that person know something personal about herself she feels would destroy her socially.
that a woman would never talk negatively to others behind that person’s back to discredit them on the off chance they decide to tell others about it.
that decent woman or daughter would hurt her mom even if she hurt her first.
that a woman can't even think for millisecond that she should be dead, least of all regret the thought afterwards.
That no good woman would be embarrassed about her femininity or lash out at others because of it.
That no normal woman would feel shame for her womanhood.
That no woman would hate herself.
women can't be cruel.
women can't be violent.
women can't be sexist.
women can't be that type of awful.
not like men can be.
Awful women aren't a rarity in nature.
They are human
Jax is one of the worst types of women you can realistically meet.
But as awful as she is she’s still one of us.
she's still human
she's still a woman.
Isn't she lovely.
it would be so awesome
it would be so cool

jax being transfem is actually so important to me because how she handles her identity is kind of similar to how i handled mine before i started socially transitioning. i really did try for so many years to embrace femininity, but that only made me feel more miserable and angry. it felt like i was failing and something that should be natural. i especially felt irritated towards people who (i assumed) found an easier time with coming to terms with their identity and would end up keeping a lot friends and arms length. my point is, a character like jax is a character i hope will help other trans people realize that things can get easier if you want it to get easier. the only person who decided it was too late for jax was jax.
