"My feelings are important, they just don't matter." -- something I actually just said to my therapist
when something triggers you in a social situation and you can't react:

Cover me in flour and paint me like one of your french girls
Me: this is not a ritual. This is totally a normal thing that normal people would clean
Also me: but don't let anyone see you clean it
Therapist: have you heard of water breathing?
Me: ...drowning?
I like that ocd gets called 'the doubting disease' both because hey accurate and also it sounds so dramatic like I am afflicted with the doubting disease *swoons onto fainting couch* or am I?

Me: it's not an OCD thing, that's just the right number
Therapist: why?
Me: because it's good, and the other ones aren't
Therapist:

Therapist:
Me: oh shit
not to be dramatic, but hearing someone acknowledge their mental illness and their symptoms in casual conversation or social setting is so affirming.
when someone says “yeah, I’ve been tired lately because of my depression. I’m gonna talk to my doctor about my meds,” or like they mention coping with intrusive thoughts, or delusions, or hallucinations, or focus issues, or compulsive behavior, etc. etc., like it’s normal, bc for them and for me and for so many people, one or more of those things ARE normal……..
TALK about a shot of serotonin STRAIGHT to my whole being
It really is. It’s very validating and comforting to me tbh. Like even though I’ve been in support groups and I logically KNOW I’m not alone, it’s still a sense of relief to my heart. Like, “ohh. I’m not the only one. And it’s okay to talk about it”. I try to talk about it in this sense for other people but also to normalize and destigmitize it for myself.
I like to casually mention that I go to therapy around my friends to hopefully make them feel more comfortable about reaching out for help if they need it.
Downtime is important! You can’t be focused and working all the time- resting and relaxing actually help make you more productive in the long run! Bringing back this reminder from 2016!
#FaceYourFears
For the last day of OCD Awareness Week I faced my fear and took out the garbage at work. This is something that I have avoided doing for months and I'm proud of myself for accomplishing this 🤙🏻
#FaceYourFears
Today I faced my fear of raw meat by touching packaged chicken in the store. It's a small step, but a step all the same.
