Currently rewatching In The Mouth of Madness, in honor of Sam Neill’s passing . One of my favorite movies. RIP.

To put it more directly, what is mutual in mutual aid is not in the goods and services delivered; it's in the underlying belief in the deep connections between those who give and those who receive. It is a deep belief in and commitment to inseparability: that my well-being is inseparable from yours and that, in caring for yours, I care for myself and, more than that, for the larger whole that is us, because we are in this together. That is, we are not mutual because of the exchange of aid; we aid each other because we are already mutual.

In the beginning of practice, synchronicity is often described as feeling something like falling into madness, losing touch with reality, or touching magic.

I think one of the really interesting things about reading sci fi and fantasy (including fanfiction) is realizing how pro-monarchy and pro-imperialism so much of it is.

I think as a writer there is also a tension between "I am writing a monarchy or an imperial system" which is not in itself necessarily pro-monarchy or pro-imperialism, or even writing protagonists taking part in said system, and writing a story that is in itself pro-monarchy or pro-imperialism.
