They are from a Homestuck AU, so. Prepare for shenanigans.

The deal with Calipsun and Calimoon (seriously considering changing his name to Charybmoon but his name is supposed to start with "Cal" for Homestuck reasons) is that they are Cherubs, an alien species from Homestuck. As is standard for Cherubs, they share one body. When one falls asleep, the other wakes up. They live on a desolate planet with only the remains of a previous civilization and much of their lives are spent scavenging and trying to understand the history of their dead home.

Now, as far as their relation to one another goes...

Cherubs are predisposed to hate each other and are biologically motivated to "beat" their other half in all regards, because to reach maturity one half needs to "predominate" over the other, leading to the erasure of the "lesser" one upon reaching adulthood. This ties into Cherubs being an asocial species and their particular method of reproduction I could not be assed to explain, but it is a thing.

That said, at present they are still kids. They never reached proper balance through clear communication and Calipsun is scared shitless of going to sleep because Calimoon is very very good at staying awake. Months kinda good.

This is because of more Homestuck fuckery of the dreamself variety, but basically: Moon doesn't fade into unconsciousness when he falls asleep, his consciousness gets transferred to another body, on a moon of a far away planet in a different realm of existence. And in that body he is chained down on a tower. Which obviously makes him not want to give Calipsun any waking hours, he doesn't want to be a prisoner.

Calipsun has a dreamself as well, but it doesn't wake up like Calimoon's (and also it's at a different planet and different moon).

So they are at a stalemate until either Calimoon stops ignoring Calipsun's letters where she tries to convince him to share the body fairly (this goes very very poorly for her)

OR! Calipsun has to wake up in her dream body and find out their roles in their planet's politics and also that SHE HAS HIS KEYS!!! And that she needs to haul ass to his planet before his beheading on their 16th birthday 😭

I'd love for them to find a way to both stay alive and reach adulthood, but all I've been able to come up with is too convoluted to explain properly, so.
