(I have blurred the blog name for their own safety, but have since blocked them after getting several reports of this. Any attempts to ping or name-drop them will have you immediately blocked, I am very serious about this)
Thank you for notifying me! I like to take people at face value and try to look for ages on blogs and make it VERY clear that I am uncomfortable interacting with minors in any sort of, especially given the fandoms and content I'm connected to. I guess the assumption that most would respect that basic boundary is something I need to be a lot more pessimistic about. I like supporting artists, writers and other creators across a lot of topics, often ones that are very sensitive or otherwise very inappropriate for minors to be interacting with.
The Freak Circus is an adult game for those over the age of 18. I do not want to interact with minors with this fandom at all, that is a hard boundary and I make that abundantly clear.
I can't control other people on the internet and I don't inherently think minors should mark their blogs as such (that is something very dangerous, never mark yourself like that as there are people who will try to target) but god, that makes it so hard to feel comfortable to interact with random fans. Tiktok was bad enough, though it's not at all a far toss for tumblr and twitter to be the same.
It's just.... disheartening, especially when I just assume people will 'follow the rules' and I know that's just a strong aspect of my autism (and yes, I know it comes off very naive of me, but that's just the internet culture I grew up with).
So, going forward, I am not going to be directly interacting with people unless you have a clear age or some other indication of your age on your blog as being an adult. I cannot afford to have anything to do with minors in TFC for so SO many reasonsโ it is incredibly dangerous, uncomfortable, and arguably disrespectful since me and the rest of the TFC team have not at all made it a secret that we are adults and this is a game for adults.
Thank you @shadowcarnivalen because I think, especially pulling back the perspective to include other adult content creators in this fandom and other fandoms related or equally adult-oriented, this is a point I think really needs to be repeated.
Modern day internet and social media culture makes it very hard to do much beyond take people at their word, and that trust can be very quickly and very strongly shattered in a way that will never be fixable.
I reblog this to provide context but I will happily remove the following content to reupload on a completely separate and blank post if I am asked. My intention is to provide some of my thoughts, not to hijack the original post.
I discovered and played The Freak Circus in February 2026. I discovered the game and its characters in February 2026.
Ever since then, it has been a new special interest of mine.
I announce this because I made the ultimate decision to reveal my birth year on my blog and wanted to set the record straight so there's no ambiguity or room for misinterpretation/misunderstandings.
The Freak Circus is an adult game for those who are 18+. The game has many content warnings that I, and many others, strongly believe are not suitable for a younger audience. If you are a minor and proudly proclaim this despite the very explicit and straightforward announcements that tell you that you are in an adult space, you are putting yourself and others at risk for very real danger.
Just watching a gameplay of The Freak Circus on YouTube by an adult creator is enough, I believe, to traumatize someone who's too young to comprehend the severity of the things they are looking at. Studies have shown that there are significant psychological impacts on just watching gore as an adult. This also means that I heavily believe that minors are certainly not equipped with the sufficient brain development to witness and adequately process the many content warnings.
There's even studies done that show that the brain does not fully develop/mature until the early 30s and I, myself, am fully aware of how much more growth I have ahead of me.
More than a decade ago, I received my first phone at 7 years old. Because of this, I have personal first-hand experiences to fall back on which have shaped me to be the young woman I am today, which is how I know for a fact that minors (especially children) are not emotionally and psychologically able to handle these dark topics no matter how much the child thinks they can. Teenagers are also going through their own developmental processes, characterized by their instability (e.g. mood swings) due to emotional overwhelm fueled by their brains as a natural part of adolescence. I say this as someone who turned 19 this year.
I thoroughly believe and wholeheartedly support that children should not be exposed to the Internet before they are ready.
The Internet is a reflection of the world. There's lots of hostility, cruelty, and immorality. But just like the world, there's pockets of good, which is why I aspire to be a positive influence on those that I have the pleasure of interacting with.
As of right now, my blog is SFW and I intend to keep it that way. This does not mean that the content I make (like my fanfics) will be SFW. I'm not going to patrol what others consume because ultimately that is up to the user, but what I can do is appropriately mark/tag my content as such so please, read the details and tags. They're there for a reason.
I can and will establish my firm boundaries if I feel the need to do so. I have done so in the past; I can certainly do so in the present and future. I believe myself to be a pretty secure and assertive individual, but I am human, which means I make mistakes and am not perfect. Nobody is.
More than anything, I want to be and remain kind as I refuse to let the world tamper my spirit. I abide by the Golden Rule: treat others how I would like them to treat me. Which is to say, I would like to behave ethically and treat others with empathy and respect. I only ask to be treated the same.
I look forward to seeing your fics on here as well!!! (โห ยณ ห)โฅ

Snippet/Summary:
Underneath the table, you cross your legs and lean against the back of the chair, shrugging with crossed arms. "It didn't seem like you were in a rush." Your gaze hardens. "Now, I need to ask you something."
Harlequin narrows his eyes at you as he takes a long sip of his iced coffee, forked green tongue flicking at you as he sets down the glass on the table with a clink!
His attention is all on you now, emerald irises expanding so you can actually see his black slit pupils even at this distance.
"And whatever could that be, my dear?"

Pairing(s): Harlequin/MC, Pierrot/MC

Estimated reading time: 1h35m

Snippet/Summary:
"What were your ancestors? Did you evolve from a divergent line of some species of jellyfish? Cuz' your tentacles are smooth and don't have any suckers on them like octopuses or squid," you state, matter-of-fact, eyes now at his clothed midsection where you knew they hugged his body. Your gaze drifts to the stage, recollecting the story Jester told last night and you furrow your brows. "And this is really annoying me; is it poison or venom? 'Cuz those two are not the same thing. Venom needs to be actively delivered into the victim's body while poison is a passively-delivered toxin."
The three circus performers froze the second you asked your first question, staring at you in tense silence.
No verbal answer came, but all of their body language practically radiated discomfort.
Fuck.
