I'll be real with you: these games are stupid, broken, unfinished messes full of opaque bullshit. I know this. I can clearly see this. They are 7/10 games at best and most people are just going to bounce right off this obtuse bullshit.

Freya is chargin' her lazers and Calliope has both back feet stuck straight up in the air because dignity is not in her wheelhouse.

I ended up having a lot of fun with Tainted Grail - by and large it was a serviceable open-world game, and the things it did well, it did really well. It really, really wanted me to be a mage, though, and it did its best to discourage me from being a stealth jerk by making all the stealth skills nearly useless. Unfortunately for everyone, I like being a stealth jerk and I am also incredibly stubborn, so I stuck with it. About halfway through the game Aedwald became completely unkillable despite their best efforts. There are very few creatures that can stand up to being stabbed forty times before they can blink.

Aedwald is shown here with Qrko, the grotesque little Questing Beast that followed him everywhere and was mostly useless but, it must be said, completely adorable, assuming that you don't mind your lizard-axolotl hybrids with several eyes where no creature was meant to have eyes.

It's actually been several months since I finished playing Monster Hunter Wilds, but I forgot to put these pictures up. And that is a damn shame, because everyone needs to appreciate my palico, Pinku.

When I first sat down with the character generator, I messed around for a while and came to the conclusion that everybody in my party was going to be white, pink, and lavender. Tavran, my hunter, has pale skin and very short lavender hair (not that you can see it), Pinku is a long-haired calico Felyne with white fur dappled with pink and lavender spots, and Bellerophon, my Seikret, grew feathers to match as soon as he was allowed to do so.

When I told @very-grownup the name of my palico, she immediately accused Tavran of being a weeb, and, as always, she was right. And a pretty old-school weeb, to boot, given that Pinku is named after a meme that's almost twenty-five years old help I am dead.

Bellerophon got that name because he can sort of fly and I felt like wilfully misremembering Greek mythology just to make sure that nothing matched besides our coloring.

Anyway! Every time I sit down with a Monster Hunter game I try to learn a new weapon. I used the Bow in World and the Dual Blades in Rise, and I'd been intending to try out the Insect Glaive this time, but I wasn't feeling it. So I tried a few other weapons and then I got to the Hammer and I hit the training cart a few times and I was all... oh no. Oh no. I like it. Oh no.

So Tavran hammered on the faces of giant monsters for a few months and a good time was had by all. Except, presumably, the giant monsters.

And the first job to benefit from the 7.4 glamour changes is... summoner! Wasn't expecting that.

Summoner is a recent addition to Skado's toolwheel (yes, technically that means he is also a scholar, but I am the world's worst healer, so scholar lives in a tiny box and only gets taken out to be painfully dragged across the finish line of role quests). Summoner started as a whim and became a useful tool for a) completing the endless aetherwells and b) bursting down FATEs in less than two minutes, thereby allowing me to finally, finally finish up all the shared FATEs and get my bicolors on.

He's also a lv. 100 viper so I've got all the roles covered now, if only just.
