The 13th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 13th August 2026.

It’s short and easy, for most participants it takes 5 minutes or less.

After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.

Really Big Coin Skrekkøgle

This is our Really Big Coin. It is big because it makes other things look small when photographed next to it. Actually, it is a 20:1 replica of the EUR 50-cent, you see it being milled out here. We needed to do quite a bit of sanding, lacquering and smudging to obtain the desired look and some climbing to get into required shooting position (you need to get up real high to take good pictures). The result is a short series of photographs, attempting to visually scale down real-sized objects.

Sometimes it even teaches the lesson that some stuff is labeled "not for kids" for a reason.

Sometimes it teaches that growing up is not a linear process, and that it doesn't move evenly across all fields.

And sometimes the lesson is that sometimes parents are just wrong about things (or don't want them happening due to arbitrary priorities) - which is a great help growing up.

I'm all for taking precautions so kids won't stumble upon adult stuff. I'm all for getting kids out of adult situations if they seem distressed or in danger, and then getting them help to process and navigate the situation.
