Rocky is prevented from going to the biodome to see Grace and is given more time with Adrian ( which they think is wonderful! they love their mate and have truely needed to go see their old friends more!) but slowly devolves back to their time on the ship: thinking about their shipmates who died because Rocky couldn’t do anything; thinking about Grace who’s alone now, without them, no one to what him sleep or who walks on the beach, who Rocky depends on as the only other person who really understands what Rocky went through in those 40 years…

Grace is left in his biodome and told that he can’t see Rocky anymore because it’s for the best but Grace doesn’t see anyone outside of Rocky and Adrian, and Adrian’s time is being spent with Rocky now. The only eridians who come to see Grace are the scientists or biodome experts, and they talk to Grace but they don’t stay with him! They don’t watch movies with him, nor go for walks on the beach, nor sit and lay together despite the hard layer of xenonite keeping them apart, because they need to ensure each other is still alive because their the only ones each other have on the space ship. Grace is back on the ship alone with no one but two bodies of people he doesn’t even remember; only he does now and it doesn’t matter because their dead and Rocky is Gone. Grace deteriorates quickly: not leaving the house, watching movies, not eating, can’t sleep, getting irritatable and hostile; walking out to the beach and screaming at the biodome door that the eridians use: screaming how he’s sane, he’s fine, this isn’t fair, they can’t DO this to him again, he can’t do it again he can’t he can’t HE CANT

Grace cries and screams at the door till his voice is hoarse and he has to drag himself back to his house so he can curl up Alone and cry over the lose of another friend.

Grace wonders if Rocky wanted this. If maybe Grace was too much and now Rocky needed a break from him. He’s too important for earth and he’s not important enough for Erid. What a sad pathetic existence!

The scientists eventually see that both saviors might genuinely kill themselves if they are separated any longer and allow them to reunite! Rocky and Grace spending the next 24 hours physically attached because they need to make sure the other is alive/still cares about them and wants them around.

The eridians finally noticing that they need to see each other again before they both go crazy from separation

That style stained glass? Those diamonds? They speak to me, and they say “Townhouse”. and FANCY townhouse, at that. They say “City home, old home, a home that is RICH, a shelter from the storm and a safe place for a family”.

But on! a! shopping cart!

That evokes - to me - Homelessness.

The person on the street who had no other choice but to steal the best cart they could from a store’s corral just to have a way to transport the meager belongings that are all they fucking have in this world. And it’s NOT a home or a safe place or a shelter but it’s all you fucking have!

Grace will never stop talking

sometimes i think about how my nonbinary friends prefer being misgendered the way thats not their originally assigned pronouns. because at least its a different sort of wrong than the one they’ve been stuck with every day before finding themselves.

right now im thinking about how spock just wants something different, hes too vulcan for humans and hes too human for vulcans but hes been too human for vulcans his whole life and by being a green-blooded, pointy-eared alien on a ship, surrounded by humans and even openly racist humans who call him slurs-AHEM AHEM mccoy looking at you COUGH COUGH— at least his vulcan side is being acknowledged and belittled instead of his human side.

sometimes i think spock intentionally eggs mccoy on at times, his usage of logic that makes mccoy feel small, although i dont think spock means to make mccoy feel small i do think that he recognizes certain actions trigger mccoy’s hatred for vulcans. i think it does something for spock. hed rather be a vulcan and deemed cold and logical and unfeeling and called slurs by humans than be viewed a human by vulcans and deemed emotional and weak because thats what his whole life has been spent experiencing.

i think kirk plays a beautiful role in his complicated feelings about his heritage. kirk is accepting of spock and how his brain works and his half-human and half-vulcan ness in ways nobody else on the enterprise is. you see kirk in a lot of ways not categorize spock into a species binary the same way others do, you see him know that spock is emotional, and know that spocks logic and cold clinical demeanor is a mask, and even play with it at times, smiling when the mask falters.

yet simultaneously kirk is gentle with him, he doesnt push spock when it matters. when he knows it would be too far in any manner. sure, kirk is human and gets angry at spock’s detached nature- but i think that that anger is just as much about kirk knowing its a mask that hurts spock, a mask that spock refuses to let go, as it is about the behavior itself. kirk allows spock to be spock, human and vulcan, and doesnt point out or make jabs at him like mccoy does, he smiles and asks teasing questions to try and tell spock “you’re safe with me.”

you even see when spocks parents come on board and disrespect spock, kirk stands up for him without even knowing those are spocks parents, he talks back when they dare insult his *first officer* because how dare they? that science officer is my malewife ill have you know, you stuck up vulcan guests.
