âBoycotting, huh? Everyone needs a supportive guy like you in their lives.â Alex shook the cell in his hand now, waving it slightly. âItâs too bad this isnât your phone or I would have slipped my number in so we could keep in touch. I guess I can trust the universe to give us more run-ins though if it really is working in my favor.â Peering over at what Phillip seemed to be doing with his phone, he watched in silent interest until he had it back in his own hand. âThe least you could have done was order me something, too. Guess Iâll just grab a donut or something from the bakery. Iâll get you one, too, if you really do decide to show up. If I donât get lost again.â
âMaybe I just like being insulted.â A soft shrug. He didnât actually find offense in being compared to a bakery treat, though. Phillipâs small smirk became a chuckle as he took in the otherâs words. âNice line. Did you just come up with it?â He teased, before looking down at the phone. âWere you going to call me any time you needed my help? Because my limit is one generous act per day. Hence why I only ordered one pizza.â  He nodded, smiling. âI never say no to the possibility of free food, so Iâll find you.â Sounding like a guarantee. âBut if you do get lost, you know where to find me.â
palmeralexâ:
âI wish. I didnât think one was necessary considering the phone is always in my hands or pocket, but now Iâm regretting coming to that conclusion.â Even with that out there, he still didnât make any attempt to take it back, still amused by the banter. âIâll be sure to let everyone in the bakery know that youâre looking. Letâs just hope that doesnât hurt your chances.â His delivery clearly still needed some work after-all. âWell, I was hoping to gas up the treats more than the people. That way theyâd want them more. Maybe I should try a less insulting approach though.â Once the information that he needed was mentally locked in, Alex handed the strangerâs phone back. âTrade again? This time with names? Mineâs Alex.â
âAnd thatâs the reason the universe brought you to me.â He nodded, proceeding to open the phone. Going straight to a food ordering app. âItâs not urgent.â Phillip waved it off. And he couldnât exactly afford a personal-anything, at the moment, anyway. âWell, it worked for me. Iâm going to be there your first day. And if you donât get hired... Well, Iâm boycotting.â He had just finished his food order when he looked up. Disconnecting the phone from the charger, Phillip handed it back to the younger male. âHow am I going to tip my delivery person now?â He sat back after taking the phone heâd shared back. âPhillip.âÂ
nevadaxsaundersâ:
âYou plan on hanging out with me only for the holidays?â Nevada mused, shaking his head. âIâm hurt,â he exclaimed dramatically. âI live a couple blocks from here actuallyâ not at all. Poochini is always worth it.â The older man shrugged, âI guess I got lucky in finding one thatâs soundproofedâ though, it was easy to partially soundproof my last one.â Nev smiled over at him, âI may need to be reminded,â he cooed, repeating his words from earlier.
âI havenât finished watching it but itâs interesting so far. Maybe, we can watch it together. Hm? Like, old times,â he suggested.Â
âYes, with tea, of course. Just for you,â he crooned, nudging him playfully with his elbow. âItâs been about two years now?â Nev questioned, not quite sure how long he had been gone for. âLitle too long, I suppose.â The musician followed him inside the front gate and into the building.Â
âAnd whenever one of us spontaneously invites the other over. Isnât that our thing?â He chuckled, nudging Nevada back playfully. âI look forward to seeing it. When should I stop by?â He looked over. âWell, play your cards right, big guy, and I can give a reminder any time you like.â
Phillip smiled at the offer. He was a documentary guy. Usually serial killer documentaries, but the hotel history was just as interesting. âLetâs do it.â For a moment trying to remembered if they talked about films they were going to watch in the past, or if it was another false memory.
âIt sounds perfect, then.â It felt like those two years had gone by fast, but it was quite a bit of time to be away. âWhat made you decide to come back? Or was that always the plan?â He asked curiously, heading towards the elevator.
palmeralexâ:
âI canât tell if youâre bluffing or not, which is why itâs a good thing Iâm headed toward a bakery right now and not a casino, but I guess Iâm not exactly the best at baking either, so maybe the universe was looking out for everyone in town with that favor.â The temptation to snoop through the phone in his hand to confirm the truth only intensified the longer that he held it, but as Alex watched the map app begin to work its magic he zoned in on what he actually needed from the device. âAs appetizing as you look, Iâm not so sure that you taste as sweet or hit the spot just as hard as whatâs on this bakeryâs menu. Hey, thatâs not a bad pitch line for potential customers. What do you think? Should I use it on them if I get the job?â
âI usually am.â He voiced offhandedly, but didnât confirm if he was or not in fact bluffing this particular time. Instead, picking up the strangerâs phone, he watched the screen light up with new life. âYou have a passcode on this?â He asked, before even checking. Not because he was planning on snooping. He actually just wanted to order some food. âWell, thatâs the real bummer. Because I was looking for a baker, myself. A personal baker.â He shrugged the idea off. âSure, people usually love hearing that they donât compare to baked goods. And Iâm sure itâll be true in most cases.â Phillip would totally choose a bakery treat over a lot of the people he knew, after all. Â

âI hope that you would,â Nevada cooed, looking over at him. âYou think Iâm going to have enough fill of seeing you only once? I donât think so,â he chuckled. âThough, Iâll have to come bother you at your place next.â The older man shoved his hands into his pockets, slowing his pace down to match Phillips as he fell into step with him. He could feel his shoulder brushing against his as they walked together. âNot all of themâ âGot boring? Waitâ massage therapist⌠I always knew you were good with your hands. You going to give me a little preview?â he teased.
âOhâ have you watched that new netflix documentary of the cecil hotel?â he questioned. âI still have that pianoâ itâs actually in my classroom, at the moment. I like to play little jingles for my students in the mornings to brighten their day,â he exclaimed. âSnake cafe? I have a friend who owns quite a bit of snakesâŚ. I can pull a few strings and make it happen for you.â he mused. âNo, I spent some time in California with my family and then, Washington with a good friend of mine.â He glanced up at the apartment building, pressing his lips together as he chuckled softly. âThat is quite the graveyard,â he teased.Â
âOf course not. We have St. Patrickâs Day, your birthday, Easter, and many other holidays to come.â He stated matter of factly, chuckling lightly. âYou still live in the neighborhood? Or will I have to travel to come visit?â Moving around Chicago wasnât that big of a task, but bigger than, say, walking around the corner. âWhich I guess I can do, for Poochini.â Head tilted. âWhere do you even find a soundproofed apartment? Or did you do it yourself?â He nodded. âIâm pretty sure I already have.â Giving Nevada a look while smiling.Â
âI havenât, but I know of the many deaths there.â Phillip mentioned, remembering his slight obsession with it a few years back. Even going as far as having spent a night there once, on a trip to LA before it had closed down. âShould I watch it?â It sounded like something Phillip could get into, but he wanted to hear Nevadaâs opinion on it. âWell, Iâm glad to hear that. Guess I can say I helped brighten peopleâs day.âÂ
âYou would? With tea, instead of coffee?â Which Phillip preferred. An intrigue in his eyes. âHow long has it been since you left town?â He was curious, since he couldnât remember the exact time frame, but he was sure it was well over a year. He was sure that heâd already been fired from the magazine the last times heâd seen Nevada. A detail he didnât share then or now. âDid I say graveyard? I meant âmy living roomâ.â He chuckled, walking towards the front gate.Â
nevadaxsaundersâ:
He snorted, shaking his head. âOhâ yes, it was that five head of yours,â he teased, grinning across at him. Nevada pushed the door open, holding it open for Phillip before leading the way. âYouâll have to familiarize the way to my new apartment. Itâs a little bigger than my last one, I wanted a little more room as my baby grand took up most of the space. And, thereâs even sound proofingâ that means no more pissing off my neighbors,â he mused. âSo⌠Phillip, are you still in journalism?â He asked.
âI never had any cats but I think I do remember mentioning to you that I did have a cat at one timeâ I do miss having cats. Thereâs a cat cafe here in the city, I might have to pay a visit.â He thought to himself. âI didâ I backpacked mostly, so, it was easier to travel with them at my side. Yes, I was in Europe mostly.â Nev quirked a brow, âIs this you telling me, that you want to see me naked again? You missed me that much?â he teased.
Phillip gave a similar chuckle, eyes fixed on the other. When he recalled their time together, Phillip could remember that Nevada had a similar effect on him. Easily being interested whenever the older male invited him over. Right from the start, it had been fun and alluring. âI will?â He raised a brow in question, eyeing the other, though his tone was light. He continued walking. âYou mean your neighbors didnât enjoy Beethovenâs fifth?â He took a turn. âIâm not. That got boring, so now Iâm a massage therapist.â
He nodded, realizing it was a wrong memory. âOther than the one I gifted you.â He thought back to the toy. âLet me know when they open a snake cafe, Iâll pay that one a visit.â He joked, though the idea did seem appealing. Drinking his coffee with a bunch of slithering friends. Which is what he assumed a cat cafe was. âThis whole time?â He made a stop, gesturing to his apartment building. Ie: not a cemetery. âWalked right into that one, didnât I? I am a sucker for some interesting body art & scars.â
nevadaxsaundersâ:
His eyes never left Phillip, studying the man before him as if he tried to place any noticeable difference from the last time he had seen him. âI can do that,â he hummed, his lips curling up into a smirk. âIt was definitely that also along with something else but thatâs only for me to know,â he teased. Part of him wondered what would have become of them if he had stayed around. âCome onâŚ. Phillipâ you should know better than to ask a man his age,â Nev chuckled, shaking his head. â36âł he answered, âOf course, I am.â
Nevada smirked as he leaned forward towards Phillip as the last piece was offered to him, taking it out of his hands with his mouth. After, he grabbed his bag and stood up. âPoochini! Thatâs itâ well, I have another dog now too and her name is pawarotti,â he mused, smiling over at him. The name was a take an another famous musician. âI might have a few tattoosâ maybe, I can show the to you later,â he mused.
Phillip couldnât say heâd changed much physically since the last time heâd seen Nevada. The biggest changes in his life were his career, and so his lifestyle. âYou can say it. It was my big... forehead. Wasnât it?â He joked, giving a small laugh. Standing up to head towards the exit, he tossed his trash. âAnd you should know how curious I am.â Down right nosey, most of the time. âItâs totally working.â
âYou had some cats, too, didnât you?â He asked, curiously. Phillip only really remembered interacting with the pup, considering he was always on the other side when Phillip knocked on the door, and very playful. âYour familyâs growing, I see. You took them with you out of the states?â Not having missed that detail from a moment ago. âSo youâve been abroad?â He questioned, now walking down the street. âSure, show me all your tattoos.â An intrigued tone.
palmeralexâ:
âGuess youâre about to find out.â Which was a sort of terrifying thought as he watched the charger magically appear almost like a shovel ready to dig up dirt. âJust remember that Iâm holding your phone right now, so if you become snoopy Iâm becoming woodstock and joining with my own little search party.â He suspected there wasnât much to find on either device other than maybe a couple of sent or unsent nudes, but the threat still brought him a little amusement. âYou know, I did consider that the universe was trying to tell me something, but I thought it was something more along the lines of how irresponsible I was. But maybe that message was more for the guy who was considering hiring me.â
âMy phone? That isnât my phone.â Eyebrow quirking, like he couldnât understand how the stranger came to that conclusion. Though considering it had come from his pocket, anyone would assume so. âWhy would I give you my phone?â Head tilting. âEither way, donât make any conjectures based on whatever you find on it. Or do, might make me look more interesting.â He shrugged. âThatâs not the universe, thatâs just shitty luck. The universe only works in ones favor. For example, taking two lefts and a right to run into me.â
palmeralexâ:
âItâs a bummer that phones that donât need a charger arenât a thing in this century, isnât it?â The retort was followed by a small sound of laughter as he lifted his hand to show the man the dead device in it. âWant to trade?â With another breath of laughter, he accepted the help by taking the phone from the strangerâs hand to quickly check for coordinates. âWas so nervous about this job interview that Iâm going to that I guess I left the house a little unprepared. I could have sworn that right before the phone died it told me to take two more lefts and a right, but I donât see a single bakery in sight so maybe it was two rights and a left?â
Phillip closed his magazine, leaning forward. âSure, Iâll trade.â He took the otherâs phone, though he knew it hadnât been serious offer. âGot anything juicy in here?â After all, a dead phone could easily be brought back to life. All Phillip had to do was connect it to the charger near by. Which he did next. If only so the guy could leave with some battery in it, and Phillip could do a good deed that didnât require he left his current seat. Everybody won. âCould just be the universe telling you that this jobâs not meant for you, or whatever.â He replied nonchalantly. âDid you think about that?â He raised a brow in question.

âHate to bug you, but is it possible to get some directions from you?â Alex hesitantly questioned, a trace of worry settling in his features at the thought of being a complete inconvenience to the stranger nearby. âItâs just I think I made a wrong turn a couple of blocks ago and before I head back I want to make sure that I actually did before I waste anymore time. Sorry if Iâm wasting yours right now.â
âYes.â As in it was possible to get directions, but unlikely if Alex was going to throw street names at him. He wasnât good with names. But he looked up from whatever he was doing to give the stranger his attention. âJust use this.â He took out a smartphone and handed it to the younger male. âWelcome to the 21st century.âÂ
nevadaxsaundersâ:
âYou know thatâs nothing new, Phillip.â He mused. ââand you know, Iâm shit at baking,â Nev chuckled softly, shaking his head. âSo, I would if I could but⌠thatâs what I had you for. You always seemed to be bringing me thoseâ you know, now that I think about it. I think you were trying to fatten me up,â he teased. âNot until April but thatâs not too far away,â Nev answered. âWell, if it was anyone, Iâd only want it to be you.â
âIs that so? Iâd love to joinâ Nevada hummed, smiling across at Phillip. âIâll happily bring my shovel,â he joked teasingly. There were so many good memories with Phillip, thatâs all he could ever recall knowing there wasnât a bad one with him. âYouâre not wrongâ Iâm sure the dog would be excited to see you again,â he cooed. The man gapped, staring across at Phillip. âGoatee? Those are fighting words, Phillip. I hope youâre prepared,â he teased, reaching up to rub his fingers over his beard, knowing that Phillip knew heâd never hurt a fly.. âI hope you know Iâve been working on this for a long time, I even trimmed it before coming back to the states.â
Phillipâs eyes wandered away, as if in thought. âYou might have to refresh my memory...â His voice lingered. âWas it my beguiling personality and company, or something else that also lured you in?â A light chuckle escaping him. He nodded, bits and pieces of old conversations coming back to him, and internally questioning if he could trust his memory, either way. âYeah, that was the plan all along.â He nodded, chuckling. Suddenly, Phillip remembered sharing a bag of treats, Nevada on his lap, and how it felt like âtheir thingâ, at the time. âApril. Right, how old are you turning?â He chuckled. âOh, now youâre just trying to butter me up.âÂ
âAlright, ready when you are.â He hummed back. âAnd you donât need a shovel the way I do it.â He replied with a small smirk, letting his words linger a moment. Putting the paper bag down, Phillip offered the last piece of dessert to the other. âIs this your way of asking me to come to your place?â He grins. âBecause Iâd love to see your Dalmatian. What was his name, again? Poochini?â The name was hard to forget. He chuckled a moment. âThe goatee was flattering. I stand by that.â He paused, taking in the beard. âItâs no goatee, but itâs okay. I guess.â He teased. âGot any new tattoos?â
nevadaxsaundersâ:
Nevada knew that there would always be lingering feelings for Phillip even after all this time. He had never quite confessed his feelings back when they were really close because he was content with the relationship that he had. The man had been through enough heartbreak and he didnât want to lose Phillip in the midst of it all.
âI am back to teaching,â Nevada nodded, reaching in to take a sweet before popping it into his mouth. âWell, you can catch me here nearly every morning. Ohâ you know it wonât take much to lure me into your cave⌠desserts or not. Iâd happily follow,â he teased lightly. âStill doing sacrificesâ I knew you always liked me because you never offered me up for one,â Nev mused lightly. âAlright, buffyâ the next time youâre hanging in a cemetary⌠let me know, Iâll come join you.â He quirked a brow when hearing that Phillip had sold the yacht. âNo kidding? Looks like Iâll have to bribe someone else to take me out on the waters,â he teased lightly. âwellâŚ. nothing last forever. You can say that good memories were made on the yacht⌠itâs not like it had ever came as a waste.â
The older man leaned back into his chair as he gazed across at Phillip, taking in the sight of the man as he studied his features. âYou look goodâŚ. itâs really good to see you.â
âRight. Hard to teach when youâre... âhere and thereâ.â Using Nevadaâs words. He knew there was more to the story, but he wouldnât ask. Not right away, anyway. âThatâs how much you like the treats, huh? Have you ever considered making them yourself?â A similar teasing tone. âAnd I didnât know that, but now Iâm curious to try it. Isnât your birthday coming up?â He raised a brow. âOccasionally.â He waved it off. âAnd maybe that was the plan all along.â A light chuckle at the joke. âMaybe I was saving the best for last.â It almost felt like theyâd had a similar conversation before. Or maybe it was just the feeling that came from talking to someone heâd known for so long.Â
âI wasnât aware that you enjoyed spending leisure time at a cemetery, but Iâm headed there for a bit, today.â He mentioned. âIn case you want to join me.â Why not continue catching up? He thought. âIf I remember correctly, the best memories were at your place.â Phillip put another bite-size piece of the treat into his mouth, looking right back at Nevada. âYou look good, too. Miss your cute little goatee, though.â He added with a small chuckle.
thatsevtannerâ:
âDid he ask first, or did he just go for the hug?â Sev raised a brow. He wasnât put off by hugs, but he definitely wasnât up to the idea of a total stranger that he didnât click with touching him. âThat just⌠no..I couldnât. I feel for you.â A chuckle. âMy name is Seven. Most people just call me Sev for short, though.â
âI donât remember. I just know that was the last time Iâd agree to a date with someone just because they gave off hot serial killer vibes.â Heâd be lying if he said he wasnât into it. Minus the whole mom thing, of course. He took his drink from the bartender with a âthanksâ. âSo, Seven, tell me more about yourself. If your date decides to kidnap me so he can have you to himself, I want to be able to sell my part.âÂ
thatsevtannerâ:
Seven appreciated the act that the other man went along with, as he didnât have to. At the question, he ran his fingers through his hair before answering. âWe didnât vibe well. He had some opinions on things that I didnât agree with and started to get angry as heck that I kept turning him down for a night cap.â He explained. âLike, why would I want to go home with someone I wasnât vibing with?â
"Sounds like this guy I went out with once. He thought it was acceptable to hug me at the end of the date.â Which was something only Phillip would be put off by, but it was like an awkward Voldemort hug. âTalked about his mother way too much. Total Norman Bates vibes.â He shrugged, looking back to Seven. âSo, whatâs your name?âÂ

nevadaxsaundersâ:
His ears perked up to the familiar voice, turning his head to spot one of his favorite people that ever came to living in Chicago. âPhillip,â Nevada breathed. He could feel his lips curling up into a smile as he remembered back all to the times that he had spent with the younger man. There were Crème brĂťlĂŠe bites, ones he swore Phillip only ever bought to bribe him with. Next, was the cat piano that played soft meows that he received from him for his birthday (he still owned the childrenâs piano.) There was even a box of toys that was given to him on that same day only for the items to be used later that night. It was a good birthday and honestly, Nevada really hadnât had a good birthday since then. âWell⌠you know, here and there,â he mused lightly and decided to take a seat across from him. âOh, I sent plenty of smoke signals⌠I just must have been too far away for it to reach you,â he answered. Of course, he peeked across the table to see what kind of goodies the other hand. âWhat have you been up to?â
Phillip smiled as the other looked over. He remembered the numerous special occasions they spent together. Like Valentine's Day evening. With baked goods and music, getting to know each other. Phillip could still recall falling for him during this time. This all felt like a lifetime ago. Nothing was the same in Phillipâs life. He did think fondly of Nevada, though. The older man was the first guy he got that close to, since his early twenties. Even to this day, he had not gotten as close to any one. Not that he was complaining, but they were nice memories.Â
âStill teaching?â He leaned forward, offering the bag of dessert to his new companion as he peered at the bag. A small chuckle left his lips. âProbably, Iâll make sure to come visit this place more often so I can see you, again. Or, I can lure you into my cave with some of these.â A cave was what his new career felt like, since it was far less glamorous than the magazine. âThe usual. Satanic sacrifice, cracking spines, hanging out in cemeteries.â His voice lingered. âSold the yacht.â He mentioned regrettably.Â
Itâs been less than twenty-four hours since he had returned to the city after being gone for nearly a year and a half. Nevada didnât mean to stay gone for so long but when it came to traveling it was hard to leave that passion behind. One of the first things that he had to do that morning was visit his favorite bakery. For those that knew the man, knew that Nevada loved sweets. The moment Nev got his hand on that chocolate croissant, his mouth started watering and the way he was looking at it was as if he was eye-fucking the pastry. It only lasted a second before flickering his gaze up and meeting a pair of eyes that was watching him, he could feeling himself blushing with embarrassment. âCould you give us some privacy, please?â he joked, lightly.
âYou and your desserts.â Phillip voiced from his seat. Though, he was one to talk. The younger man would inhaled anything with flavor. Which was exactly what he was doing as he spoke out to Nevada. His own treats in a bag in front of him. Itâd been a while since heâd last seen Nevada. He couldnât even remember their last interaction, though he remembered other times with Nevada. âWhereâve you been Nevada? Not a letter or a call. Not even a smoke signal.âÂ
