A heartfelt RIP for #AmbassadorJosephWilson, whose very good book The Politics of Truth I edited and published with in 2004. On his long-running book tour, he gave many public talks—especially on campuses—espousing a progressive patriotism that was a counterweight to the jingoism of his critics. Audiences found these talks very inspiring. He extolled having a career in the foreign service and spoke w/relish and pinpoint memories of countries he worked in. I heard from Joe this summer. He told me he was terminally ill, and said how proud of the 2004 book he remained. After weeks of scraped and bumpy streets in my neighborhood--with no re-paving in sight, and already one big snowstorm in to the winter--I called 311 and the office of my NYC Council Member Helen Rosenthal, urging that the city get on with it, lest we be stuck with raw streets until spring. This simple but welcome urban amenity is now complete.
