( tws ; parental loss, ocd, anxiety, depression, medication )
despite the wright family being a staple of roseton for several generations, spencer didn't step foot in the town until he was sixteen years old. his father was from the town, but left when he turned eighteen for the bright lights of los angeles, where spencer's parents met and raised him. he was born with severe deafness in his right ear and has worn a hearing aid since he was a kid.
they weren't well off monetarily, but the family of three were more than wealthy in love. when spencer's mom died when he was fourteen, it was well and truly devastating. the loss wrecked his dad, the man completely changed from the warm and reliable figure young spence had been used to. the pair struggled together for a little over two years, spencer raising himself and trying ( and failing ) to keep his grieving dad afloat too.
eventually, the older man decided it was too much and sent spencer to live with his grandparents. it was supposed to be temporary, but he hasn't had contact with his father since, so.
the adjustment was not an easy one. spencer had always been an anxious boy, but it grew exponentially upon his arrival in roseton. his grandparents and teachers noted unusual behaviours ; locking doors and windows and checking they were locked several times, pressing lights on and off for minutes on end, avoiding certain numbers or focussing desperately on others. this led to a diagnosis of ocd when he was seventeen, therapy and medication.
somehow managed to just about graduate high school and was very lucky that his grandfather had been letting him work at his mechanic shop, otto repairs, since he arrived and offered him a full-time position there.
never in a million years had spencer ever imagined he'd inherit the place and be in charge, but he did, going on seven years now. he really, sincerely, hopes he's doing a good job.
headcanons.
felt very much like an outsider when he moved, and honestly... still kinda does despite being in town for most of his life now. the circumstances of the move definitely didn't help, and of course, neither did being a teenager at the time. he's just never really felt settled, or like he could call roseton home even though he loves the place & the people to bits.
absolutely lives for helping people. as a mechanic is what he does best and is most comfortable with but he'd do pretty much for anyone nice enough to give him the time of day. and even people who aren't nice, honestly. is absolutely terrified that he's not honouring his grandfather's legacy by doing a good enough job of owning otto repairs.. even though nothing's really changed since he took over. maybe some things have been updated a little bit, but minimally. the place kind of runs itself, anyway, thank god.
has pretty consistently been on medication for his ocd and anxiety for around ten years now ( and for depression for a little less ), in and and out of therapy, too, though he's way less consistent with that. he's accepted that it has and will never get rid of the voice in his head completely, but for the most part it's quieter and more manageable. and when it spikes, he knows what to do.
has a black and white border collie named bo who is probably his best friend in the whole world and entirely spoiled rotten because of it. catch them on long walks and bo around the repair shop a lot.
plays acoustic guitar and sings, but the most audience he's willing to have is bo... and even that's dicey at times. so, it is practically a secret all of his own. if you happened to stroll past his house on rose lane late at night though, you might hear a sample coming from the porch.
wasn't really a troublemaker or notorious around town as a teenager and into his early twenties, but there was certainly a lot of skipping school and trying to spend as much time by himself as possible. some of that still stands today, though he's considerably less awkward and shy than he was years ago. just not very good at putting himself out there.
wanted connections.
