We going from the top of the world to the bottom #jamaica #wiready
Jamaica 2016
So just a place holder for now but Sensible are hitting Jamaica in a couple of weeks. Going to be live. Got a big itinerary and set of interviews planned, going to be coming in hot with bare radio gear to capture the vibe for my grandkids who will celebrate dancehall at the beach front at the top of the globally-warmed Blue Mountains no doubt.

The complexity of nature's most impressive swimmer leads some to mistakenly believe it was designed, but it is proof of evolution at work, writes Matt Baker.
No updates for ages, then a slew of Sensible Science in the meantime. When I’m not shelling down the greatest music in the world (rhymes with trancehall), I study how bacteria swim. In particular I try to build and modify the tiny little outboard motor that lets them swim so snappily. Here’s a short opinion piece I wrote for ABC Science on how this motor is beautifully complex, refined by evolution and not designed by some creator.

Back on Track
Standing over a beach fire holding my last bottle of self-imported Magnum Tonic Wine
I’ve been a little slack on updating the website. I’ve been busy learning to produce content radio on the Greek Crisis at Radio National, including some jokes appearances on Weekend Breakfast alongside Dr Karl. I’ve been doing the weekly dancehall shows, but haven’t focussed on updates, or uploads, so this is an official notice that we are ‘back on track’ - starting with an upload of the Svelt takeover while I was away.

FILASTINE + NOVA + RIBONGIA AT RED RATTLER
I haven't updated in a while, been 2 months pon the road doing Sensible Fencing alongside the Jamaican Fencing Team at the Commonwealth Champs in Scotland. Did hit a likkle tunes action in Greece alongside the Balkan Riddims crew shelling down Balkan Bashment, as well as holding down the Sensible Winter Carnival in Oxford and recording a Sensible Studio Session in Cardiff.
In any case, we are back in bidness running out into 2015 with the exclusive Sydney gig of international badman Filastine - more details here, and more hype to come soon.

L.Razor - Last Night
So I was recently hitting up some new riddims and came across the Special Guest Riddim courtesy of Demarco's 'Bout Yah'. When I explored further I found a tune that just jumped out at me as a certified BANGER upon first listen. It's been at least a decade since dancehall has had a true storyteller tune like this - where you get roped into the entire narrative with such silky imagery you feel like you've just danced your way through a cinematic experience. It's called 'Last Night', and it's by New York based artist L.Razor (pronounced el-dot-razor). I hit him up straight away for an interview which I will run on the radio this Saturday, for a preview and some insight into the blade behind the razor, read more after the jump.

Conkarah in the Basement
We caught up with Conkarah last night in Good God for a quick interview at Thursday's Dancehall and food night Full Up. He's shelling down the Basement tomorrow night in a world music meets jazz meets Jamaica's High Commissioner for the Pacific. We met up with him when he flew into town and got his thoughts on the Pacific, reggae in Indonesia, the vibe in the Torres Strait Islands, and what to expect tomorrow night. Read more after the drop...
Conkarah touches down in Sydney
Conkarah, straight out of Jamaica, is playing in Sydney at the Basement alongside 7-piece zouk ensemble Tamasa Creole in a creole zouk night fusion next Saturday 20th September. We've got a little teaser of the gig and will be running more details over the next week including an interview with Conkarah when he touches down in Mascot. Read more after the drop...
Λογικός Dancehall
I'm off to Greece for a few weeks, a good opportunity to smash souvlakia and rustle up some new Balkan tunes. I came tantalisingly close to a jungle gig in Athens last year, but didn't really convert the opportunity. It's difficult in August as everyone is in the village, and Athens is just kinda really hot so this I'll be doing mostly famdamily activities similarly.
I'm hosting a little Sensible Taverna reunion at the NV Beach Bar, opportunity to bust out a couple sets and Caribbeanize the local scene with the UK Sensible Dancehall brothers.
Had a fun 4 hours of radio on Saturday at Bondi Beach Radio with an old friend, DJ iSuk, who dusted off his gear and his skills and did a hip hop set and a breaks set with some funk-inspired vibes. I thought we had a good tagteam approach, and I managed to lay down a few dancehall, garage, jungle, afrobeat bangers, as well as shouting out a mate in Colombia which is a radio first for me. People have been asking for a download of the set to max the car/iPod vibes, so here it is.
Been in Greece for 24 hours now, so still woozy with jetlag courtesy of going hard pon the drinks in Sydney straight before jumping on the plane, but managed to support the small reggae vinyl scene with a sneaky nab of the KutMasta Kurt hip hop remix of Buju Banton's Vigilante:
Also managed, courtesy of aforementioned pre-boozing, to forget half my sound gear. Will be prerecording a live-from-Athens mix for the standard Saturday Sensible show at Bondi Beach Radio, with a bit of Greek flavour, as soon as I can throw a few euros towards some speaka cable and adaptors.

Sensible Radio
Six months or so ago DJ Fasmwa graciously invited me down to join him on the Prescription Show at Bondi Beach Radio. It's been great, and due to an expansion in the Caribbean sector, I'm going to be running my own Sensible show from 10 am to midday on Saturdays (1am-3am UK summer time). Read more about the plans after the drop.

Sensible Melbourne
World Cup Mix
Well courtesy of an epic aerial goal from Van Persie, the World Cup is truly underway. The Sensible Dancehall crew has been hard at work crate digging across the globe. We've been rushing to meet a self-imposed deadline of the first Neymar goal to unleash our World Cup Mix for 2014 - with a tune from every participating nation.
Few things are as international as football and reggae music. You can trek deep into the interior of the Amazon and still find someone who can juggle a football and recite a fistful of Bob Marley lyrics. Every track on this mix was hand picked by Sensible Selectas to showcase the global prescence of dancehall and bass music. Dancehall rears it's head in Costa Rica and Chile, cumbia from Mexico, punto from Honduras, soca-afrobeat fusions from Ghana, and jungle from Russia. You get the idea.
I'll be showcasing particular tunes with videos ahead of certain fixtures. Tonight's big games, for me, are Greece vs Colombia, featuring Locomondo's 'Goal':
and the Uproot Andy remix of Grupo Socavón's 'Hominaje a Justino':
and, of course, England vs Italy, which is best summed up by this collaboration between Riva Starr and Roots Manuva 'We Got This Ting':
From here the vibe can only build.
