akira places a hand on the student's head . a silent kind of praise , nothing else . for what , however , was anyone's guess .
the blue - haired student had just been quietly sitting at his desk prior , thumb absentmindedly scrolling along as he stared at his phone , if for no other reason than to find something INTERESTING to do — a common occurrence , but one that often leaves him a little too OBLIVIOUS to his surroundings. but , no matter how ENGROSSING the discussions on forums are , it all stops when he feels the hand on top of his head. it surprises him , even startles him at first ( though that’s probably more his fault than anything ). surprise quickly turns to confusion , as he takes a moment to pause and see what EXACTLY is going on. hazel eyes quickly glance up , only to find those of a certain GLASSES - WEARING FRIEND waiting for him. ( is friend or associate more accurate? it’s hard to tell with this ❛ phantom thievery ❜ business sometimes. ) as soon as gazes meet , mishima’s moment of confusion shifts into a bashful half - smile , only for his eyes to swiftly become downcast in embarrassment. is . . . akira praising him? if so , for what? it’s not like he’d done anything particularly HEROIC or INTERESTING lately.
but , regardless of reason , mishima takes a moment to let out an almost embarrassed little chuckle. ❝ hey , kurusu , what’s that for? ❞ hand rubs back of neck as he speaks. ❝ i'm just . . . doing what i always do. ❞ not that he doesn’t appreciate the gesture , of course — it’s just strange to receive PRAISE like this all of a sudden. does that mean he’s doing something right . . . ?

ow . . . ow , ow , ow. he’d managed to push himself to stand up , thankfully , but to hobble off the court to rest feels near IMPOSSIBLE. the fall shouldn’t have been that bad — mishima , in a rare moment of boldness and bravery , simply went in for a dive , and , either by pure chance or a cruel twist of fate , managed to land in a way that was ( quite literally ) twisted and absolutely PAINFUL.
as soon as he finds a suitable place to do so , he sits , cautiously inspecting his leg to see if he has any visible injuries from the fall. a wince. he really isn’t cut out for this , is he? he looked like a complete idiot out there . . . and everyone saw it. . . . maybe coming back to volleyball was a BAD IDEA. it’s just then , in the midst of the aches and pains and sucky thoughts , that he hears akira’s voice — thankfully , seeing his friend was JUST ENOUGH for mishima to pry his eyes away and distract himself from both his injuries and his wandering mind. a quiet chuckle. ❝ —yeah , i’m fine , ❞ he answers , a smile that isn’t entirely cheerful and happy spreading across his face. ❝ just being a dumbass again. ❞ he’s doing his best to lighten the mood , if for no one else than himself. ❝ you really don’t need to worry about me , though. i'll be alright. it’s nothing i can’t handle! ❞ he’s doing his best to put on a brave face — how embarrassing would it be if he showed he was anything other than okay right now?
it’s a curious sight , for sure. he’d just been minding his own business , wandering around and exploring , when he’d first seen her. at first , the blue - haired student thought his eyes were just playing TRICKS on him. what he was seeing wasn’t . . . real , was it? after all , right over there was shujin’s student council president — why on earth would she be out here , in shinjuku? ( wasn’t she supposed to be one of those straight - a , genius types who never did anything wrong , ever? ) . . . would it be weird to go talk to her? probably. but before mishima can stop himself , he finds himself weaving through the hordes of people to go chat.
❝ — hey!! ❞ he exclaims once he’s finally there , perhaps a bit too loudly and a bit too suddenly. ( he’s never really been one for first impressions , clearly. ) ❝ uh . . . you’re niijima - senpai , right? what’s up? i . . . didn’t think i'd see you out here! ❞ he’s doing his best to stay casual and chill , but that . . . doesn’t really seem to be working very well. ☽ @arcanalink
