The Dorchester brewery dates back to 1837 when Charles Eldridge bought the small Green Dragon brewery. The Eldridge family continued to be involved in the brewery, first in partnership with Samuel Mason and later Edwin Pope. Eventually the Pope family bought out the Eldridge share. On my recent trip to Dorset I visited Brownsea Island. It is probably most famous for the camp held in 1907 by Lord Robert Baden-Powell which marked the beginning of the scout movement. I found this statue on the quayside at Poole from which the boats to Brownsea Island depart. It was installed here in 2008.
