unpopular opinion but the barbie movie had terrible messages and wasn't very good.
Point one: Barbie's main motivation is that she doesn't want to be weird and #ugly.
Point two: Apparently, women can't be anything unless it's in a fictional world.
Point three: All it did was tell us the issues in a preachy way, it didn't actually show anything that made me or my girlfriend leave feeling empowered. It did not show very well.
Some of the jokes went on way too long (Ken and Horses and stuff) I know it was trying to poke at Toxic Masculinity but it ended up, to me, praising Toxic Femininity.
I was really bothered by the main character's refusal to be weird and have cellulite. Which every woman has. Which is apparently to be shamed upon.
There are way more but I cannot eloquently word it right now.
I am not saying it didn't have any good messages/good moments/laughs, it just felt very overshadowed by some of the bad ones.
restoring late 90s computers, The Hobby
Recently I got interested in restoring computers from the 90s and older (probably will do Windows XP machines too). So I am going to start to restore them and possibly resell them for those who want to enjoy a nice retro game. I pick these machines up a lot and stuff. Last weekend I picked up one that I will keep for personal uses, because it is a classic eMachine with it's fancy sticker. While it no longer as the infamous "Never Obsolete" sticker, it's still a pretty machine.
Weirdly, besides having to clean it up and wipe the hard drive, it didn't really need much done to it except for that the system is fully maxed out and overheats, so I am going to do some work on it to get it running and not overheating.
I've been scouring yard/garage/estate sales for other machines I can either harvest for parts or otherwise.
Current Specs: 256 MB SDRAM ATI Radeon 7200 120 GB HDD Celeron Processor Windows 98 SE Also features: DVD Player RW, CD-Rom Drive (40x), Floppy Drive It does want a new sound card but I have to find one. Whatever it has is inside its motherboard (Crystal something). I'm adding in a PCI Exaust Fan in hopes I can pump the rest of the heat out. Yes, it can run DOOM, please stop asking me that whenever I post a computer anywhere. Anyways, just a ramble.

Elon Musk: the most dangerous Antisemite
Not only does Musk validate antisemitic conspiracy theories, but his power as Twitter CEO gives him terrifying influence over millions.
Hey non-Jewish leftists and progressives who consider yourselves allies to Jews or, at a minimum, not antisemitic: now is an exceptionally great time to step up
This is shockingly similar to Henry Ford ā i.e. an automotive mogul seen as an innovator in the general public uses his fortune and outsized influence to establish a large media presence and spread antisemitism.
There are some important distinctions, but nothing that makes me feel better about the situation.
1. At its height, Henry Fordās publication, āThe Dearborn Independent,ā had a circulation of 900,000. The largest circulation in America at the time was 950,000.
While it was certainly influential, it wasnāt unmatched. In comparison to Muskās 140 million followers, Ford reached a relatively small number of people.
2. Ford marketed explicit antisemitism, which eventually led to the downfall of his publication ā youāve probably heard of āThe international Jewā and āThe Protocols of the Elders of Zion.ā
However, as with most antisemites (on both the right and the left), Musk hides behind the thin veil of dog whistles and oversights, leaving a layer of barely-plausible deniability.
3. Ford was eventually forced to publicly apologize after he made the mistake of attacking Jewish attorney Aaron Sapiro for more than a year, until Sapiro eventually sued Ford for libel (i.e. he fucked around and found out lol). Ford eventually lost the case and was forced to publicly apologize (his apology was written by associates and his signature on it was reportedly forged). The magazine was shut down soon afterwards.
While I canāt predict the future, something tells me Muskās obfuscations and the current political climate will allow him to continue to operate with impunity. Dancing around the issue allows at the very least for greater longevity of your bigotry (say it with your chest you coward).
Despite everything, Ford was able to secure his position in history, albeit with some, um, unfortunate footnotes and the occasional caveat being mentioned.*
All in all, this feels very similar to Trump copying David Dukeās run for the Louisiana legislature, but thatās a story for a different day.

- Ford was a notorious union buster
- Ford received the Grand Cross of the German Eagle in 1938, the highest honor a foreigner could receive from Nazi Germany, with personal congratulations from Hitler

- Yes, Iām aware that nobody explicitly praises Henry Ford anymore, and everybody knows what a shithole he was. While āHenry Ford hated the Jewsā is a common refrain, specific knowledge of his hatred is lacking, and I think itās important to point to explicit hatred in the past, because hatred is normally hidden nowadays and needs to be identified outside of the group receiving the hatred.

itās aapi month, but itās also jewish american history month and...
our culture, identity, and everything else is constantly white washed. White people justify in horrible ways that Jewish people are all white and only have ties to being white. Not to take away from AAPI month, as both months are very important, but we deserve to be listened to. So take time this month to look at some Jewish creators, whoās skin may or may not be white - but our culture and heritage is not. For millennia, our heritage and culture has been whitewashed, through forced assimilation (if we do not assimilate, it is death), to being isolated and shunned, massacred, and genocided, (even within the last 100 years).
So take some time this month to look at both AAPI creators, but also Jewish creators. Famous AAPI historical figures, but also famous Jewish figures. Remember we exist, and that even today people see us as secondary too.
And remember that AAPI is getting a ton of media attention, love and respect (which is deserves) but unfortunately, this month is shared. Thanks :)

Yes itās very important for solidarity with workers but, and maybe this is an unpopular opinion, workers should have solidarity with poor customers. Like ignore shoplifting, be sensitive when ppl are using EBT cards, that kinda thing.
If you work retail and you worry about shoplifters I beg you to remember how little money youāre being paid to do this
and also no matter what your boss says to you, someone shoplifting will not cause your wages to be docked. if it DOES, then you can get in contact with a labor attourney, who will proceed to light up like a kid at christmas because they (and you) are about to get a big fat payday. that shit is ridiculously illegal.
idk who is saying it wont let wages be docked but uh they make up for the money somewhere. wages are not docked. hours are cut through the store. thatās what happens.Ā I will make the same amount per hour but the store might lose hours. If I work hard and my store values me, I will maintain the amount of hours I am getting but someone who is not as good of a worker may lose MUCH needed hours to pay their bills and afford food. On top of that, the extra work that extra person might have done will get tossed on to me. shoplifting culture hurts people in retail. it is not a fuck you to the big man. it will not cut your wage, but it will cut the amount of overall hours the store gets to compensate for that loss so the stock holders, CEO, and the like continue to make what they make and there are record profits.

for the idiots: theft = profit loss = less hours the district corporate gives the store = less hours to spread between workers in the store = more work (same pay) for people getting those hours. ALSO most Managers are on a Salary with a fixed income. If their store does good they get bonuses but if the store does bad they might be making even less than minimum wage and forced to carry the work of 3+ people.

Shoplifting wont help anyone because the greedy fat-cats are out there taking money from us. But unfortunately, shoplifting is taking from people who have the job too. Itās all a blame the rich scenario - but shoplifting isnāt a fuck you to the CEO. The CEO will compensate at the bottom of the pyramid in order to make the share holders and their own wallet happy. What part of that is too difficult for you to understand? Shoplifting hurts the retail workers who are not-salary (hourly) oriented. God you guys are so dumb. Also, to the first part of thisĀ ārisking lifeā orĀ ārisking selfā for tattling for dealing with shop lifters - if you ever worked 5 minutes in retail you know there is Asset Protection and their job is to look for and communicate with these people. Regular Workers are not supposed to talk to these people about shop lifting. Our job is toĀ ācustomer serviceā them so they know someone is looking at them. Thatās it. You tell the Asset Protection over walkieĀ āhey, sus guy in aisle 5ā³ quietly, then go to the guy and just askĀ āhey bro, finding everything okay? Yeah? hey you are holding a lot of items without a cart, can I get you a cart?ā But itās the big CEO people that are the problem - stop off setting your broke ass issues onto other broke ass people who are actually working their asses off, doing the job of 2-3 people for minimum wage and getting their hours cut because you lazy entitled people are out here taking things.
I am a regular bottom of the barrel worker and shoplifters make my job SO much more difficult that you have no idea. My job is finding items. If the store says the item is there, and it's not. I have to look for it even though I know damn well someone shoved a stack of the item into their purse when no one was looking to resell. Then I get in trouble because I can't find the thing. And "team members" or bottom of the barrel workers, are treated like dirt. Stores like retail are all about metrics and there is a very firm pyramid in place that ensures that bottom stays at bottom and that the profit loss only effects the bottom. If a lot of people don't shop lift, it might be a small profit loss, which means the store doesn't cut as many hours - but they'll do something else. Stop the AC. Or not allow for much needed upgrades to equipment to ensure our safety. Such as "oh that ladder? well we can't afford a new ladder. We'll just jimmy it until it fucking works lol. who cares if a loser falls off and smashes their head open because it's unsteady. there is enough bureaucracy in place to ensure we have enough time before their OSHA violation report is even seen by anyone who matters." My store I work at did not hit the "payroll" it needed this month. That means the few people who are there are doing the jobs of several people and that there is piles of boxes in the backroom no one has been able to touch for over a week. This is a huge part of shop lifters fault. You guys are also responsible for places in some cities putting CHEESE under lock and key. Stop hurting struggling people. Shoplifting hurts the little guy not the big guy. And let me reiterate. The Big Guy Does not Care. He only sees that "this district is doing poorly so, district people. figure out why this is and make sure their allotted hours are adjusted to fit the store's profits" if District can't fix it, the level above them has to deal with it. There is soooo many steps in place. Stop Shoplifting. inb4 I work at a fortune 50 company.
