I only draw ugly characters

I'm really bad at giving headcanons ngl. I guess I can give my general overview of my interpretation of the main 4. Personally I like to try and keep my interpretations as close to canon as possible, so if John Madness himself says something, I'll most likely change my view or hc to match closer to that. Most of the time. Other times I'll keep certain changes just because I like it/I think it's cool. That's pretty much all my hcs and interpretations for madcom honestly. I do this shit for the love of how edgy and cool the world is. (Also forgive me if I do get information wrong or misremember things of they were already given. Lots of things in this series have changed or were revealed over these 20 years. Lol)

If there's specific things you're wondering or want to know, lmk if I don't answer that here.

Hank J. Wimbleton- the Frankensteined corpse that just won't stay down no matter how many times they get killed. The overall menace of Nevada. Before becoming the protagonist, he was simply a real estate agent. His normal day to day life was taking a toll on his mental state, and no amount of medication was working. On the brink of being thrown into an asylum after losing his job, Hank just gives into his own madness. Doing what came naturally to him, he killed and killed. Even in death he can't stop. Being brought back again and again by one of the Greater Powers or by Doc himself, he just can't stop. He won't ever stop, because he's nothing but a virus that refuses to be contained. But other than all that, he does enjoy the smaller things in life sometimes. Music, maybe a little bit of sports, and occasionally being a nuisance to Doc. Can't say he's got a great relationship with Sanford and Deimos tho. Especially after the whole project nexus ending, any sort of friendliness died there. Strictly coworkers when the time calls. Very rare occasions where Hank joins poker night again. (Boredom was killing them.)

Since I prefer drawing them as a humanoid grunt, I'll give a few hcs I draw Hank with. When unmasked, he looks very corpse-like, paler than the rest due to poor circulation. That metal jaw is hanging on with nothing but hopes and dreams. He rarely speaks, and when he does its difficult to understand. Even with no noses on any grunts, I like giving him the exposed nasal cavity. He has heavier damaged to the left of his face, so he suffers from a lot of nerve damage. Pretty much blind in his left eye. But the goggles act as a sort of device to help him see clearly again. (Thanks doc.)

Deimos- Rancid rotten bastard. Ex-A.A.H.W. agent gone rouge hackerman. Early career being, you guessed it, an A.A.H.W. agent. Was recruited by Doc due to his knowledge and skills. Even for how much of a bum douche-bag I make Deimos out to be, he's the second smartest of the 4. He's unpleasant to be around, having Sanford being his only real "pal". As much as I want to say I'm a Sanmos fan, the reality is, they're a lot more tragic than a typical relationship/friendship. Heavily more on a gymbro and work life situationship. Personally for Deimos, I love giving him a mop of a mullet. Makes him look like a sleazy buff cake. Giving him that trailer trash smoker vibe because he's gross.

Sanford- I personally don't have much of a past headcanon for him unfortunately. Probably the one with the most obscure past imo. At least before his time in Status Quo. Sanford is likely the most level headed of the bunch. As deranged as he can seem while on the job, he can talk some clear sense into others. The mental toll of a lot of the self awareness he has makes it hard to connect with others around him. Deimos would be the same way, but I think he actively ignores the horrors around him, so it doesn't drive him crazy. Like what can you realistically do in this situation when reality is falling apart around you constantly and you're nothing more than a hardened criminal supposedly doing what's right according to some scientist playing doctor? To each their own, I guess. Anyways Sanford probably drinks quite a bit from time to time to unwind, plus he's probably not the biggest fan of visiting Deimos since his place reeks of cigarettes. Only hanging out with him out of pure desperation at times. He's losing more and more of his old buddies.

Doc- This one is LONG overdue. I promised this months ago and just kinda abandoned it. Sorry about that. Doc's probably the one I've thought over more than the rest honestly. (I'm biased, can you tell) In my interpretation, Doc started out as an agent. Quickly climbing the ranks due to his knowledge, quick thinking, and his inventive mindset. Due to a rising threat and an offer he couldn't refuse, he joined the A.A.H.W. in its early days. Thinking that it's just one guy, how hard could it be to take him down? Doc wasn't thinking the same thing once Hank shot a bullet through his face. In my headcanon, Doc's mouth scars are caused by him being ambushed by Hank and having the barrel of a gun nearly pressed against his cheek and a bullet tearing through his mouth. He's missing most of his molars and pre-molars thanks to that. He didn't die right away, but was definitely left to bleed out. So in my eyes, yeah, Doc's been to the Other Place, or to him, Hell. He didn't see much, but it was enough to fuck with him. I'd like to think this is where he spotted a Retainer and got the idea for the mask he'd make later on. At this point, I want to say this is where the Maker pulls Doc from the Other Place into his own pocket of space, away from the Machine's prying eye. Whatever vague speech the Maker gave Doc, it set him on his current path. Dumping him back into Nevada, Doc is taken up by Nexus Core. He didn't have much time working there as an engineer/scientist before breaking off and helping with the creation of S.Q. (I don't see him as the leader of Status Quo, merely an important figure and dispatcher to the group). From there he does whatever Doc does best. Gather Intel, innovate, and dabble in biological horrors. Doc's fascination in death and Hell get the better of him at times definitely. It crosses the line into sadistic practices sometimes. Being "chosen" by the Maker gave Doc an ego boost, thinking everyone around him is lesser and what he's doing can "save" Nevada. Geez, sounding a lot like a certain egotistical dead savior right now.

But besides all that, he's really just a secret isolated loser. Sure, I make him to be a powerhouse when I draw him, but he needs that build if he's gonna haul all that equipment and those dead bodies around. He has lackys for a reason, but they're not always present to help with more personal projects. Doc is def a stress eater and drinker. Very much a loner. Until Hank decides to bother him again. They're always at each other's throats. Hank finds it fun to agitate Doc one way or another.

As much of a 2bhank shipper as I am, truthfully, I don't see their "relationship" as something loving or caring. They treat each other as if they're the master and the other is their puppet. They unfortunately need each other in different ways, Doc needing his weapon, and Hank needing the one guy who has the tools to bring him back and is willing to fix them up.

Guess I should dwell into how Doc isn't actually a real doctor. He treats the others as machines when opening them up. He's far removed from actually treating anyone as patients, but rather fine tuned machines. Typically following books as guidance if he's run into a problem or even stooping to asking Skinner for advice if something isn't troubleshooting to his liking.

but thank you! As of right now, no I don't have a concrete date or general idea of when I'm going back to that comic. I did the horrible thing and burned myself out after a few pages because I wanted to go all out on it. Bad idea. May revisit those first few pages and touch up a few things but keep the color palette to a minimum. But don't worry anon, I will go back to it. I have to find myself a nice mixture of wanting to work on personal projects vs fanart.

Sorry for no new art or engagements. Work and other things have just burned me out of any motivation for art atm. Just physically and emotionally exhausted constantly to the point of not wanting to do anything.

I want to promise I'll get back to art, but I can't. Idk when I'll get back to it.

But you got me there. Pest was always a little traumatized being even before being experimented on and turned into an abomination. If you ask them what their life was like early on, they’d just shrug. They don’t know much about themselves either. Whether its due to past trauma or maybe even the short term memory loss, they can’t remember much anyways. That’s why their name is Pest. They don’t remember their own name, but being called a pest was so much of a staple from others that it just stuck with ‘em. A lot of their old personality was a bit all over the place. Sometimes they’d be very quiet and reserved while other days were going off the other end of the scale with freak-outs of any and all kinds.

Going along with the Madness timeline, much of their pre-abomination antics were well before Phobos’ fall. Things weren’t as desolate, but things were still dystopian. So having some hoodlum run around causing trouble isn’t something new, just means there’s more authority to avoid. Gloved Pest, (a nice way to to differentiate between the two versions) was mainly an urban explorer, while they “dabbled” in a little bit of ghost hunting. Running through (sometimes) abandoned buildings, stealing what may look expensive or valuable to willing buyer. They were quite the photographer too, snapping pictures of whatever for one reason or another. They sell most photos to other opposing factors that may want whatever information they can get from them. They mainly hid out in a “rat nest” of sorts in some abandoned building. As if the stealing and picture taking wasn’t obvious enough, they’re very much a kleptomaniac. The pictures they keep are more of reminders of the places they’ve visited since they’re awful at remembering where they’ve been and what they’ve seen. Pest’s “final” days were more chaotic than usual. Plan Zed was released and zombies were a new constant threat. So it only got more and more overwhelming for them out there. With the new threats rising, it would only be a matter of time before they slipped up. Getting killed by the Nexus Core Agents would’ve been more of a mercy killing than whatever the hell they put that thing through. For how manic and volatile Pest would be, it’s no surprise they were damn near instantly thrown into the asylum. Just another patient for the doctors to experiment on. So of course the rest is pretty straight forward. Experiment after experiment to create a new sleepwalker agent. But Pest wasn’t one of the “lucky” ones per say. They failed that education, and now they’ll live out the rest of their little abominated life as some skinless freak who can’t think properly. (As if they couldn’t think much better before all this.) Just a wretched little creature through and through who did what they could to survive and in the end, look where it go them. Sorry if you were expecting some major backstory or traumatic retelling of what their life was like before the experiments. Just a pathetic loner creature who lived amongst the undesirables and related more to bugs than other grunts. (quick edit: here's old art I don't think I ever posted. it ain't much)
