MID YEAR BOOK TAG πΰ ¬ά
κ€ how many books have you read so far this year?
31! my reading pace has fluctuated a lot (and i'm currently behind on my reading goal) but hey it could be worse <3
κ€ best book you've read so far this year?
the first book to come to mind is say nothing by patrick radden keefe; a really good and in-depth story of the IRA's rebellion against the english. brilliantly told and really brought the themes of what price you're willing to pay for freedom and independence, as well as the innocent that are caught up and are casualties between two opposing forces (rereads β¦ i really enjoyed all for the game. as you all know.)
κ€ most disappointing book you've read so far?
i wasn't a huge fan of the books i had to read for uni, but for books i read of my own volition i gotta say the memory police by yΕko ogawa since i had such hopeful expectations for it. i also gained genre-consciousness during the last half of a witch's guide to magical innkeeping by sangu mandanna, which knocked it down a star :/
κ€ what book was the most surprising?
i was pleasantly taken aback by how much i liked firekeeper's daughter by angeline boulley, however if we're talking 'shocking' content β¦ the rape of nanking by iris cheng
κ€ favourite new character you met this year?
perhaps it's recency bias, but ivan koubek (from intermezzo) and i got along quite well <3 (and, if we're including rereads, shoutout to mf kevin day from all for the game, my dear friend that i worry about <3)
κ€ most hated character you met this year?
i wanted to kill every single person in an abundance of katherine's by j*hn gr*en and then myself.
κ€ most beautiful book cover(s)?
κ€ a book cover that you would redesign?
i'm *not* a fan of the all for the game covers, i'll be so real β¦ all these years and we don't have a more detailed design??? ok. also the fact that we don't have a tv show tie-in cover for heated rivalry is really surprising tbh.
κ€ most read author this year (or author you enjoyed the most)?
nora sakavic and rachel reid are tied for having read 3 books of them each!
κ€ what book do you want to read most in the next half of the year?
ooh i have *so* many β¦ the count of monte cristo by alexandre dumas, american prometheus by kai bird, the odyssey by homer, stoner by john williams, martyr! by kaveh akbar, east of eden by john steinbeck, as well as a buddy reread of to kill a mockingbird by harper lee with @olive-musubi and a reread/annotation of atonement by ian mcewan (not to mention potentially reading katabasis by rf kuang and the farseer trilogy)
κ€ overall, are you enjoying this year of books better, worse, or about the same as last year?
last year was not my best book reading year due to my mental health and life changes, so even though this year is not the *best* i've ever had it's definitely better lol <3
κ€ do you use any book tracking platforms?
yes! go follow me on goodreads, and storygraph (though i need to update storygraph lol). i tried using fable but i don't think it's for me, and was *debating* pagebound? (but i fear that might just be too much)
