In China, some “pretend work” offices let job seekers pay about 30 to 50 yuan, or $4 to $7, for a desk and an office-like routine. They can use Wi-Fi, meeting rooms, coffee, lunch, and sit around other people who also look busy. Some places even simulate office tasks or supervisors. Many people use these spaces to search for jobs, work on ideas, keep a normal schedule, and avoid the pressure of staying home unemployed.
